Title: wheel bearings labour???
Post by stafford on Jan 4th, 2006, 11:27am
hello all...I am going to get the wheelbearings changed front and back..they arent noisy yet but 75000 miles now and bigger alloys going on next month so better get it done. I have been quoted £140 for all the bearings. What sort of Labour charge can i expect??3,4,5 hours??

Thanks

oh ps this may interest cossie owners!!!

Not sure I'd change the bearings if there's nothing wrong with them. It seems to me that newer ones have just as much chance of failing as the originals.

The parts on e-bay are described as being for the BOA Cosworth engine. 'Our' engines are the later BOB version.

My rear near side was done 2 weeks ago. 2 hours (lot of clean-up on the hub) and £65 for the part, £125 in total.

Rear  ones  seem to go  more  often than   fronts,   the  chap on the site who changed  the  rear  bearings  reckons  3 hrs  for  the   two  wheels.  The front  bearings   I believe  need a   hefty  puller   and an even   heftier   press  to   remove   the  old  ones  and  install  the  new  ones,  so could  mean  more  labour  time.

rears are only 8 bolts, 1 nut & a bit of press time.

Hi all
How will i know when rear wheel bearings will need replacing. As mine have now done 84,000 miles.Have read some frightening posts about wheelbearings just breaking up and collapsing without any warning whatsoever.

It pays to have the rears looked at as soon as you have so much as a whimper out of them. I let mines go a week (4-5days) and you should have seen the mess. Get them early or get them checked out early, not to be mucked about with. :)

Jacking  'em   up   and  giving  the  wheels a   shake   every so  often  will   give  you some  protection    from  the  gradual  bearing  break  up,  but   some  posters  have   reported   the  dreaded  " Catastrophic  Failure " at   cruising speed.  So  you  takes your chances.

Who said  being a Scorpio owner was  boring ? !
