Title: Cheap ( I hope ) Front Wishbones ! Post by mr._floppy on Jan 16th, 2006, 4:04pm I'm in a state of shock, after being quoted by FPUK £92.27+16.14 VAT for an OS front wishbone ( plus rearmost rubber bush ) I tried my local ( Dundee ) friendly Motor Factors for the same item, guess what? for the same item £28.90 +£5.05 ( rear rubber bush included ), I questioned the guy over the very cheap price and wondered whether a mistook had been made, but no, so I've ordered two in case he changes his mind, I'll pick 'em up tomorrow. Could these be the cheapest in the UK ? @ Unless, as Esther used to say, you know differently! ;) |

Title: Re: Cheap ( I hope ) Front Wishbones ! Post by janspeed on Jan 16th, 2006, 6:47pm :) Hi. That does seem cheap, my local motor factor quoted a similar price, i asked them to recheck and it was for the Scorpio up to 1994<. I got a price from Ford of £115 inc V.A.T. each. Another local motor factor quoted me £89 inc vat for the correct wishbones, Scorpio 1995> on. I did check with a few guys on here and it was just the rear bush that had gone and not the ball joint. So i got the rear bushes from Ford. Has the ball joint on your Scorp gone? If not just replace the bushes, saved me a fortune. Hope this helps. There is also a company on here that can do them cheaper than Ford. I`m sure somebody will provide the link. Jay |

Title: Re: Cheap ( I hope ) Front Wishbones ! Post by mr._floppy on Jan 16th, 2006, 7:12pm I did say it was a '96 Scorpio, but I do wonder if, as you say, he has quoted for a Granada/Scorpio wishbone. I shall phone and check tomorrow. The trouble I have is: NS inside uneven tyre wear , steering wander, white line sensitivity and a slight drifting to the left. I know ( because I've checked everything else ! ) it's either the wishbone rubber bushes, lower balljoint wear, or both , and it's very annoying to go to all the trouble of replacing the bushes only to find it makes no difference. So it will have to be full wishbone replacement before the next MOT. |

Title: Re: Cheap ( I hope ) Front Wishbones ! Post by Paul B on Jan 16th, 2006, 8:53pm I thought the wishbones for the Scorpio were only available from Ford :-/ If these are the pucker items, then this is a fantastic saving and goodd news for all of us! |

Title: Re: Cheap ( I hope ) Front Wishbones ! Post by mr._floppy on Jan 17th, 2006, 2:20pm Yep, you were right Higlander ( and others ), the guy says in his parts book the " Ford Scorpio " model runs from 1985-1998 and the front wishbones are all the same, I had to educate him in the confusing and murky minutiae of the Granada/Scorpio / Europe/UK models and he rang back with the revised and correct Scorpio 1994-98 price of £90+VAT . Wasn't there a post from someone recently who got wishbones for £59 ? |

Title: Re: Cheap ( I hope ) Front Wishbones ! Post by scorpio_man on Jan 18th, 2006, 7:51am hi there copied from the mailing list....... Hi all. Ive just ordered a pair of wishbones, fully bushed at #59.00p ea +vat +#5.00p delivery from karl@autospares-group.com. Not a bad price, nice chap to talk to and had both sides in stock. Cheers Phil they sound like they are refurb'd. only that you can't, afaik, replace the ball joint. :-/ from my own experience, when i replaced the bushes, it didn't fix the problem. only new wishbones cured the wear issue on the front of mine's. |

Title: Re: Cheap ( I hope ) Front Wishbones ! Post by mr._floppy on Jan 18th, 2006, 11:49am I'm getting into the habit of stockpiling new spares for items that will need replacing as the car gets older but are not crucial at the moment , nowt worse than running about like a blue ***ed fly for a spare when the alternator belt breaks, BUY IT NOW ! ??? So in my cupboard are rear discs and pads, prop centre bearing, rear wheel bearing kit and next on my list , two front wishbones. |

Title: Re: Cheap ( I hope ) Front Wishbones ! Post by admin on Jan 20th, 2006, 7:44am Just a timely reminder for people to check their rear wheel bearings as well especially with wander and white lining - due to the weight of the car they are very hard to check on the ground and need an experienced eye and feel to check them even on a ramp - however they contribute to poor handling and can let go suddenly which is not a pretty site and expensive. I changed my after 50,000 miles on principle and they were badly worn even though they appeared fine on the standard wheel rock test. Steve |

Title: Re: Cheap ( I hope ) Front Wishbones ! Post by Baw_Flinger on Jan 24th, 2006, 4:40pm Just been quoted £58.50 + VAT from Autospares, but they dont have any in or even know when their supplier will be stocking them again >:( Ford parts UK have given me a price of £80 + VAT and have em, so I'm gonna have to spring for the extra dosh as I dont want toleave it for another month or something. Dont want to shell out for a whole strearing rack as well!! |
