Title: Blue Dash LED's. Phase 3
Post by leftofcentre on Jan 29th, 2006, 5:37pm
Well the CC was completed. Mixed opinion.  The LCD displays are good but more LEDs are required behind the Dials.  :-/  These are in the post so watch this space.

The clock was a complete success but requiring 3 (three) LEDs at equal intervals.

The dash i think most of you will agree is bloody fantastic.  :D :D :D :D

12v
I got the twistlocks of Ebay.  LED + Resistor assembly ready made otherwise you will have to get both LED + Resistor + solder them together before the LEDs will work.

Good luck mate.  Will be worth it.  Looks so much better i real life than in the photo.   :)

Nice job, not my thing though.  What I would like to know is what type of LED would I need to buy to replace the one that illuminates the standard heated window switch?

Not the orange LED in the centre of the switch, but the LED that is in the switch body that illuminates the symbol of the windscreen/rear-window.

Well Ford use a tiny bulb with a green rubber jacket over it.  You could purchase a green LED and Resistor and solder it in as a replacement.

Why u want to change it to an LED if ur happy with green?

And LED will do so long as its 12v.  As i say before tho, if at first it doesnt work, reverse the polarity.

Simple answer to why I want to change it,...mine no longer works!

I am loathed to replace a whole switch on the basis on just one faulty bulb/LED!

well its simple enough to solder in another bulb.  Plenty available from halfords etc or get an LED off Ebay.  A guy does packs of 10 inc resistors if u fancy doing any other switches.  he sells them in diff colours too.

PM me if you want his Ebay ID.

I've  replaced the  LED's  and  bulbs  in  my  seat  memory switch,  seat heater switches  and  the rear window  heater  switch,  but  I tip my hat  to  Leftofcentre  for  Soldering Iron   bravery  way  beyond   the   call  of  duty.

Hate to say it but I would be careful what you do in this area.

The multiplex wiring system in the Scorpio can be affected by different voltage drops - we know this from the trip switch! Even though you are using the same voltage bulbs (I hope) what affect does the wattage have?

Do you really want to strip out what you have done if a fault appears that you can't find an answer to?

Sorry to put a downer on you parade and I hope I am wrong - any electronics experts out there?

Dave

Daven.  I have not used "Bulbs" at all.

The current draw and voltage drop from an LED is not within measureable limits.

Thanks for your thoughts though  :)
