Title: Bargain or Bumps Testing.
Post by Moonchalk on Jan 29th, 2006, 10:10pm
OK, in the heat of the moment I went and bought a Scorp off eBay.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4607040385

Now I need some peer group comments from people who know the score on what sort of a deal I got!

Did I  get a bargain or do I need my bumps testing?

Opinion welcomed.

Well they are underselling your wheels, you get an extra eight spokes with it, those wheels are called 12 spokes ;D

Looks very tidy and the mileage is lower than average, hopefully you are going to have great fun with it.

Enjoy...

Geoff

The  price   is  about  right for a low mileage  example,   looks pretty good as well.

Let us know   your first impressions  of the car  and  its   little  niggly  faults. ( I bet  it   pulls to the left,      they all do ! ) :-/

2.3 is a tried and tested unit, and in most circumstances if maintained properly will give good service, only problem you might invisage with the engine is a possible cracked inlet manifold (made of plastic, and the 2.3's are a little prone to this),on a personal note,i have a 2.3 showing 88,000 now, approx 12 months ago i had a rear wheel bearing fail on me,and the other side went about 1500 miles ago,so do keep an eye and ear open for possible early warning signs, could just save you a fortune.. ;)
yours does look a nice example,so welcome to the site,i hope yours proves as reliable as mine (in the last 4 years, apart from routine maintainence, the only faults i have had wih mine are the 2 i have mentioned),and gives you many years of happy motoring...craig.. :D

Welcome to the site!

Like many others I saw this and thought it looked like a cracker - hope it gives you a lot of pleasure!

They have their problems like any car but are fantastic motors overall. You have got yourself a nice looking car there mate  :)

Cheers

Picked it up today, generally very pleased, a well looked after, clean, tight motor.

Drives half its age.

All the gadgets seem to work too, except the computer which is stuck on imperial units.

One cause for concern though is engine temperature. Around town and  in traffic it is fine, the gauge sits bang on half way and doesn't budge. Get it on the open road or motorway though and it starts overcooling and it wasn't especially cold outside today at about 6 or 7 deg c.

Driving up the M1, the gauge dropped almost back into the blue. Turning the heater off had no effect. I'll try covering up the rad grille as a short term fix until the weather gets warmer, but does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?

Thanks.

Temp problems could be thermostat.
Also check if radiator fan is running constantly
Computer switches can be taken apart and carefully cleaned

Good luck
David

I'd go for the thermostat too, either stuck open or missing
