Title: Pyro seat belt tensioner - transit clip
Post by Baw_Flinger on Jan 31st, 2006, 10:30am
Just installed a new drivers seat base unit but do not have a transit clip per http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/interior/seat/fseatssylo.pdf
For the time being, I have left this unpluged but would like to get it hooked up asap and the warning light is driving me mental. Have called Fords and they were their usual helpfull selves, i.e a pile of poo. Anybody know where I could get one of these or have a picture of one so I could make one up.

Cheers ;D

It is only a pin that locks the mechanism , I did mine ages ago and did not have a problem.

Did it without disconnecting anything. providing you are careful. Its there for the H&S aspect really . If oyu want to be sure disconnect the battery of take the appropriate fuse out.

I'll give it a go by disconecting the batt for 20 mins plug in then re-connect.
Cheers

Aaah rubbish. As it turns out, the base units are of coarse the same except for the tensioner. My old unit was self contained and had a yellow multi plug which connects to the main computer. This new unit has a separate box and no connecter (as per seat manual) so I cant hook it up to the system in my car. So now I have the joy of stripping all the parts off both bases and switching them round >:( :'(. Anybody have any info on why these two would be different?

Early cars did NOT have the electronic activation on the seat belt tensioners just the inertia type.... AFAIK.

The inertia ones just need a sharp tap - it is spring loaded and has a trigger mechanism! I know because thats what happened when mine dropped when I was taking my seats out >:(, so if anyone does have one lying around let me know ;)

The link Baw_Flinger shows in his original post is the inertia one and does need a transit clip to post which is why I can't get one from ebay that easy!

The Pyro ones look more like a tube and would need an electrical connection to fire (AFAIK). The inertia ones have NO electrical connection.

The belt clip is pulled down into the bracket with a large force - I could not re-set a spare one I had, with the tools I have - maybe a press could but then it may not work correctly when needed!

SRS warning light is not MOT fail item, rectifying fault should clear light.

It is more than likely a connection problem. Check the connections to the airbags (side) and pretensioners. The connectors are under the seats
