Title: Damage to under bonnet wiring.
Post by Simmo on Feb 8th, 2006, 11:50am
I have read many times that a large number of problems are caused through heat affecting the wiring looms in the engine bay. In Car Mechanics there is an advert for a company selling exhaust insulation wrap designed to reduce under bonnet temperature. Having looked at their website, www.agriemach.com they also do a product called Cool Tube which is designed to fit over wiring and thus protect it from the heat. Perhaps one of our 'experts' could have a look at the site and offer an opinion.

hi  this cool tube does appear to work as i fitted it to my 2.9 12v . however the wiring must be in perfect order to start with otherwise just fitting this to  your existing loom can cause damage. , just try and bend your loom witch appears to be in perfect condition and you will see hairline cracks appear all over where it has been damaged by the heat, second thoughts dont try it as you will only blame me when it happens, the only cure is to fit a new loom or in my case make a new one as most are not aviable. ive looked at my made up loom after 6 months and it appears to be as good as when i fitted it, perhaps ive just found a market here making looms to order, hope this helps everybody as the faults from a damaged loom can be very, very ,very hard to find and are more common than you think ricky ,amen
