Title: Anti-Roll Bar Bushes (front) Post by Paul B on Feb 27th, 2006, 1:25pm OK, been there and done these once before, but I'm not sure if I need to do them again :-/ Been having a wiggle under there this morning and I'm wondering this... by grabbing the end of the roll bar, should I be able to move the roll bar from side to side? Cos I can. The bushes don't seem to grab hold of the bar much, and the bar is slipping through them. Whats the professional opinion? |

Title: Re: Anti-Roll Bar Bushes (front) Post by Thunderchild on Feb 27th, 2006, 3:41pm Hi there, That's just how they are. I was staggered when I replaced the bushes that the roll bar still moved from side to side. silenced all the clunking noises I had been hearing though and never gave any more problems so I guess that it's normal. Title: Re: Anti-Roll Bar Bushes (front) Post by mr._floppy on Feb 27th, 2006, 6:37pm The front anti-roll bar on my Scorpio has ( To prevent side to side movement ) has a clamp fitted on the bar each side of the bush mounting. |

Title: Re: Anti-Roll Bar Bushes (front) Post by Paul B on Feb 27th, 2006, 7:42pm Ah yes, the clamps are there on mine too. Ford issued a TSB on the fitting of these, and there was specific gap intended between these and the roll-bar bush brackets. I've measured mine and they are correct. But when you wiggle the bar from side to side, the 'clonking' can be reproduced when these 2 things knock against each other. |

Title: Re: Anti-Roll Bar Bushes (front) Post by Paul B on Feb 28th, 2006, 5:49pm Not too sure yet Dave. I think I need to have a proper look sometime soon. But, whatever is at fault, it hasn't lasted long. The wishbones, drop links and rollbar bushes were all done at the same time. That can be no longer ago than 2 years and low mileage in that time too. :( |

Title: Re: Anti-Roll Bar Bushes (front) Post by Daven on Mar 1st, 2006, 7:37am Mine started to 'clonk' after the springs had been replaced - I found the lower bush on the link arms had worked loose. I reasoned it could be where they had been taken off to fit the springs, but when they were put back on had not settled in properly due to the tapered shape. So may be worth checking yours have not come loose! HTH Dave |
