Title: Comments welcome!
Post by Daven on Mar 8th, 2006, 8:31am
Just seen this here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1997-FORD-SCORPIO-ULTIMA-16V-MAROON-VERY-CHEAP-895_W0QQitemZ4619670085QQcategoryZ9844QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting) and was thinking about it.

I have a M reg - mechanically sound (for it's age) only 71k but the bodywork could be better!

Not sure to try and get this one and swap the good bits from mine or stick with mine and try to bring it up to scratch!?

Any comment welcome! ;)

Dave

I wouldn't want to break it - just use the body and swap my good bits - re-build my car and sell it whole keeping the P reg.

My reasoning would be that my M reg is getting a bit tatty (following the side impact last year - so it had a C class insurance claim on it) but the engine is in fair nick but I have been thinking about giving the engine a minor overhaul (mainly due to a water leak on the inlet manifold). If this one is any good I would use it while I did the engine, then swap engines and gearbox and all other 'upgrades' and the sell the M reg!

The worst bit (for me) would be the engine gearbox swap and the selling the M reg!

Thanks for the input so far - it does help the thought process!

I would take it for a test drive, not bought a car on ebay before but would be very careful!

Cheers

Dave

dave....
my input for what it's worth, and having discussed this with you before,it looks a nice car at a fair price, but consider this option as well, buy a 2.3 when your ready at the right price (plenty about at the moment)and see what you can recoup back on yours.... :-/.... ???
just a thought mate.... ;)

Sounds like a  barrow load  of work   ( with little  guarantee  that  the  donor car's  running  gear is  any  better  than  your own )    as    a   card   carrying  lazy    b*****r    I  would    wait  for  a  genuine   low  mileage   R , S  or T  reg   to come along.

mmmm - some good points there!

A scan would be on my list mike, but thanks anyway ;)

Craig - good point - been itching for a low milage 2.3 manual but suspect I would not be able to afford one for quite a while :(

Also with you mr_floppy - but I'm also tight so would be prepared for a hard time to save a buck ;) ;D

As for the running gear - I wonder how much time I have before I would have to do the same work anyway, would this way be more sensible if the shell is in better nick!?

But then I would have the cost of the Air-Con re-gas as well for both cars......

:-/ ???
