Title: Fuel Injector Upgrade?
Post by DJWerkz on Mar 9th, 2006, 1:16pm
Just wondered if anyone ever ran any tests on the fuel injectors fitted to the Scorpio block?  Wondered how well the stock injectors continue to run after 60,000 miles?

I've run V8 cars before and found that there can be large differences across stock injectors after about 60,000 miles.  Cleaning never really sorted the problem so used after-market high-volume blue printed injectors to give an even performance (high volume were necessary in my previous projects to match with other modifications made).

Just wondered if anyone on here has upgraded their stock injectors?  If so, what type did you use and gains/differences did you experience?

My scopio has over 90.000 miles and i think none of the ex-owners eaven cleaned the injectors. So i hope i will not get surpises when i'll try to get them off to clean them.

HowieD told me that the injectors have a habit of breaking when you try to remove them so it's something best left alone.

I've not tried but a friend of mine who runs www.105speed.com recommended Northampton Motor Sports who offer a full injector test, removal and cleaning service,...among many other things.

I have booked the car in for an hour's diagnostic's and checks to see what they come up with.  They will be able to tell the state of my injector health and on my exhaust issues too (see post in 'Problems' on Ticking Noise).

I think mine are kind of cloged, because sometimes under hard throttle it tends to lose power. Before changeing the fuel filter the power loss was a lot higher so i'm thinking that rust/dirt from the fuel have reached them. What could i breke at them  ???

Thinking to your injector upgrade. Higher injectors don't need remaping of the ECU ? meaning WDS ?? meaning FMD ??? That could be nasty

...that's one of the reasons why I was asking for other members experience, to see if this was necessary.  I did a big old American SUV when I lived in the USA and that did have to be totally re-mapped but that was also because the whole ignition, induction, exhaust and fuel system were upgraded for better performance.

Hi Craig

I would just clean them as a upgrade will probably muck up your management.
Becareful some can be mega hard to remove & others just pull out.
Knowing your luck you will have the injectors from hell ;D

I use emerald management with Nissan Skyline injectors ;)
