Title: To go back in time......
Post by leftofcentre on Mar 13th, 2006, 10:40pm
Am having a deliberation as what to do with my motor (again) and a thought + suggestion was put to me by a pal of mine.

That is to go back in time  :D

I have seen a v nice Ford Granny Ghia 2.0 DOHC manual saloon with full tax + test and am considering purchasing it.  If i do, i am thinking of using my Scorp as a Donor car.  Leather interior, etc etc

Anybody any thoughts or comments?

Presume it will all fit?

Was even thinking of transferring the Aircon out of the scorp.

Anybody like to add anything?

WOT !   and do without  puddle lights ?   Nah,

get another  Scorp,   I loved the  Granadas  too,   but they sure   rusted   like     a    b*****d .

Mine was only  8  years  old  but  I  always dreaded  overnight  rain   as the  footwell   would  fill up   to   the  door   bottoms,   not  nice  of  a  morning.

Get  Autotrader  on    t'interweb,    there's a few  Scorps  in central  Scotland  for sale.

Andy,

my opinion - would be a shame to break your Scorpio. They are being broken at a rate of goodness knows how many per week as the moment. Fair enough if there is a major fault......

At the end of the day its your car to do with as you wish but you have got to be happy with it. May I suggest you sell it and maybe look round for a 2.3 ultima as you were thinking of a few weeks ago?

Just my tuppence worth  :)

Cheers

EDIT: What about something like this:

I often wonder why the TD's go for so cheap?

I ain't complaining!  ;) ;D ;D ;D

Usually they have either inter-galactic mileages on them or have (relatively easy to fix) engine trouble:

Even with the rarer auto-box'd scorpio's some go for top money, whereas others not much at all:

Edit: though having said that the td's should be much more reliable than the petrols as there's a whole lot less electrical stuff engine wise to go wrong  :)

That's my new car!  ;D ;D ;D

The better half has stripped the engine, and removed the offending broken hydraulic tappet, so if you were wondering, it was the hydraulic tappet that was broken. :o

;D I was gonna have a go at bidding on it to add to my collection as I thought it was something along the lines of either one of the push rods or the tappets, and i have a whole load of spares ones but my new 24v addition dictated that i should keep my hand off the 'bid' button.

Congrats on your new car btw  8)

but i see you have bid on this one (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4621589047&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1)

Why so much on a car thats fecked?  Welding, spot weld removal etc?  Are you going to break it + use it as donor car?

Thanks ;D

Broken bits.....

Looks like it was the little spring clip in the top of the hydraulic tappet that failed causing the parts to seperate.

It also damaged the tappet aligner and push rod too.

It isn't too badly fecked, can get a new panel welded on by a mate. Plus that was a while ago now when it was on ebay and my current 'project' is almost done and will be out of the way so that will give me something to do in the summer. Its on a T plate so it isn't that old, if i could get it for £505 i'd be pleased  :)

Ells, If you need any engine bits for it i can have a look for you...

If you would :)........one hydraulic tappet, one pushrod, one tappet aligner, and one exhaust rocker?

I think you live quite near me, as we passed in Stevenage before the last Herts meet ;D

even though its on a T plate mate, the last production was in 1998 was it not?  T plate is cos i expect it was left on a forecourt somewhere before it was 1st registered.

Good luck with it anyways  ;D

Cheers  ;D

I shall have a root around in the garage for them tonight and I'll let you know. I have a rally this friday night which won't finish til late, but i will be heading down from Leicester via Stevenage way to Essex sunday evening so I could drop them off to you no problem. I will get myself to the Herts meet one day  :) :) :)

Thanks for that! I'll be white van driving on Sunday, but should be back pretty early. I live near the A1/M25 junction (just inside the M25), so you're probably passing pretty close by on the way round to Essex

Cheers ;D

Matt,

We got a price from fordparts uk for the bits needed, and as the new hydraulic tappet was only £18+ we decided to go for new bits, so thanks very much for the offer, but no need to go rummaging round your garage for me ;D

Cheers
