1. Take a lot of care with the hoses, they can be old and crack
2. Be gentel with pluging / unpluging them
3. discnect the upper side and down side of the radiator, flush and back flush it till water comes crystal clear on the other side
4. disconect the expansion tank....wash it thorougly
5. flush and back flush the hoses that go to the engine
6. Use lots of water for getting out all the rust / dirt that forms
7. The thermostat is good to be verified at this point, because if it has a problem it saves you from changing the antifreze again .....later (i didn't do this :P and it's at least half open)
8. Put with great care the system back, dont forget about the radiator plug...gentle with that, it's from plastic
9. Get some good quality antifrezee and make it a 60% conentation with demineralised water
10. fill up the system....procedure is somewhere on the site
11. take care...all that water on the engine could make you trouble !!!!

Have fun...i did  ;D

PS: antifreeze type green / non-silicate, glycol type....it's needed to be changed more often but it doesn't imply the risk of dystoing your rubber hoses like the red type one / silicate type....that can be changed once at 10 years.....

Demineralised water is distiled water (water boiled evapored and condensed, it is used also for topping up the battery electrolyte).....i hope you are not adding mineral water, or god know what to the car...... ;D

Yes it is, blue / green type use a glicol forumula (in general) and must be changed more often (2-3 years). Red / purple / orange are based on silicates and organic acids and last up to 10 Years but they are kind of incompatible with older engines / cars, especialy with diesels. So if the car is not compatible with silicate type it will ruin the cooling system. If a newer car gets glicol type cooling it will not damage the engine. It is all a thing about the production standard / copatibility.

Not all red antifreeze contains silicate, Vauxhalls doesn't and it is fully backward compatiable for all vehicles prior to MY2001 and is able to be mixed with traditional coolant in any quantity. It can deliver up to five year/150.000 mile protection when all of the old blue/green antifreeze has been drained and the cooling system thoroughly flushed before refilling with the appropriate mix of red antifreeze.

Part no. 93170402 for 1ltr @ £2.35 inc and 93165087 for 5ltr @ £10.58 inc.

demineralised = distiled water

@Mike, you are right there are exceptions and a few cases in wich the red type antifrezee is good for older cars, but also you must take good care when flushing the system.

Cheers
