It looks like more than one type of sump was fitted to the VM diesel engine. I have the earlier type which has three plugs with 10mm allen heads and one with a 12mm allen head.

Trying to remove the two 10mm plugs as shown on the engine dismantling PDF file just rounded off the allen heads so they'll never come out now. However, the 12mm allen head plug (not shown in PDF) is the actual sump plug and can be undone quite easily. Don't forget to check/replace the rubber O-ring seal and clean off any swarf that may have collected around the magnetic tip of the plug.
