Title: Permanent live wire Post by mazzy_j on Apr 20th, 2006, 2:35pm Other than from the battery, is there a permanent 'live' connector or wire in the engine bay (preferably which is already fused and near the front headlights)? The reason i ask is that i plan to fit some LED bulb sidelights which i want to come on permanently whenever the engine is switched on (like on volvos). Thnaks, Matt |

How are they permanetly live, surely they are only live when you switch them on. You might have to get into the fuce box for the Radio fuse. or ignition. |

Title: Re: Permanent live wire Post by Baz on Apr 21st, 2006, 12:23am The only way really is to run straight through from the battery but run it via a relay which is powered from the ignition. Easy enough to do. I run one for my DVD/TV system which runs via a power saver relay so the system doesn't shut down immediately the power is turned off if I go for petrol or something so that Connor doesn't get cut off while watching shark tale!! |

Title: Re: Permanent live wire Post by mazzy_j on Apr 21st, 2006, 11:11am I had thought about adding a relay like what i did for my Could i tap off an ignition controlled 12v from say the pressure limit switch on top of the aircon receiver/dryer, or from a sensor somewhere?? Also, what about the connector from the 'Whats this connector for' topic? Thanks, Matt |

Title: Re: Permanent live wire Post by Kjetil S on Apr 21st, 2006, 2:02pm Wouldn't it be enough to add the extra relay found on scandinavian cars? Or would one need additional wiring? |

Title: Re: Permanent live wire Post by sector-9 on Apr 21st, 2006, 10:25pm Tap off the cooling fan relay - this has an ignition feed to it and is behind the RH headlamp (on the diesel). LEDs shouldn't take too much current but if you're worried then the thick orange/blue wire carries permanent live - you could leech a relay off that... Darren |

Title: Re: Permanent live wire Post by Matt on Apr 22nd, 2006, 11:17am You could come off the alternator as well but if it’s any where as difficult to access like the cosies then I’d run a mile :P, i'd stick a small fuse in there where ever you decide to tap off from just be on the safe side |
