Title: Renewing brake fluid Post by Magnusf on May 13th, 2006, 7:16am Hi there! This subject has been up before, but still left me wondering... if you look at http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/brake/BrakeFluid.pdf it doesn't mention the rear brakes? So you can actually empty the whole system through the front calipers? Surely you must atleast bleed the rear ones after? And what was the conclusion regarding required amount of fluid? Think there was one litre mentioned in an older thread? Anyone know for sure? Shame it's not mentioned in the pdf's as you really don't want to buy too much and get half a bottle left! :) Thanks in advance! / Magnus |

Title: Re: Renewing brake fluid Post by Snoopy on May 13th, 2006, 7:29am YES it is possible to bleed the rear brakes and therefore get NEW fluid into the whole system. I along with others recomend using a self pressure bleed kit that allows one person operation. These are available fro most motor factors and parts dealers . like the one in this picture this one (http://www.mgocaccessories.co.uk/acatalog/Gunsons.html) which is what ihave used for years. |

Title: Re: Renewing brake fluid Post by Magnusf on May 13th, 2006, 7:56am Hello! Wow! That's a quick reply! Thanks! Well, I knew the rear calipers have bleed valves, I was more concerned wether the circuit to the rear calipers too was emptyed through the rear calipers? Or if you'd rather try to pump out fluid through the rear ones as well, before filling the system with new fluid? The fact that I don't have a bleed kit like that just shows that I've only recently understood the importance of completely renewing brake fluid, not just "top up" after renewing some part! :) cheers! / Magnus |

Title: Re: Renewing brake fluid Post by mr._floppy on May 13th, 2006, 10:40am The easiest and cheapest but most time consuming way to completely renew the brake fluid in the entire system is to bleed each caliper separately till all the old fluid is expelled and replaced with clean fluid. I would say 500ml of brake fluid per caliper would be about right. |
