Title: Washers
Post by Bren_K30 on May 15th, 2006, 1:16am
Recently my windscreen washers went from a good strong blast from all 4 jets to an occasional splutter that didn't even reach the edge of the bonnet.

Dimly remembering a post, either on here or on the mailing list, about the use of washing up liquid, and it causing a build up of sludge in the bottle I pulled out the pump from the washer bottle.

The rubber filter/seal was completely blocked and the bottle itself was heavily contaminated with ??? something. This is not washing up liquid, and I haven't the slightest idea what it actually is. The photograph shows the residue that was flushed out on about the 3rd or 4th blast through with a hose pipe in the filler.

My wife had a blocked washer a while back in her Mondeo. When I took the tank out & pulled the pump off a 3 inch long centipede (dead) came out. It's worked fine ever since.
She hadn't put any screen wash in for a while...just topped it up with water. Obviously these disgusting creatures have evolved so as they can live in your washer tank.
It looks as though Darwin could have been right.
P.S.  It stunk as well.
