Title: Brake costs? Post by km449 on May 16th, 2006, 6:31pm Could anyone give me some idea as to what cost I should expect for supply and fitting of new front discs and pads for my 97 auto estate. Would be through a local garage, not a FMD Thanks Keith |

Title: Re: Brake costs? Post by Spannerdemon on May 16th, 2006, 8:22pm Hi KM. I've got a 2.9 Ultima 12v and i've just bought front and rear discs and pads for my car. REAR Discs were £18.50 for a set, and pads 8.50. These were Mintex discs and Lucas pads. FRONT Discs are Mintex again £21.00, with Mintex Pads £12.50. I've replaced the rears, and I will be replacing the fronts in due course. All these items were bought on Ebay. I have a fairly tight budget, so I have to shop around a bit. All the items were brand new, and in their original boxes, so I made a good saving. Fitting was really easy using the guide on this site. http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/frontrearbrakes.htm I'm hoping that the 'picture' problem can be sorted before I do the front ones, as the pictures for the rear renewal (click on them) were a very big help. Hope that gives you an idea of cost. Fitting isn't difficult. :) |

Title: Re: Brake costs? Post by mr._floppy on May 16th, 2006, 8:53pm I know some garages get rather snotty when you source the spares cheaply yourself and only require them to do the fitting, but that's just tough , we all know they make a stonking profit from supplying the parts. |

Title: Re: Brake costs? Post by Spannerdemon on May 17th, 2006, 7:31am Yeah..............AND for their exorbitant Labour Charges!! Sure as hell, THIS Scorpio owner isn't paying somebody £42 an hour (on top of the cost of their well marked up parts) to do what I can do myself!! Go On KM. Amaze yourself. You CAN do this job. It really isn't difficult. 8) |

Title: Re: Brake costs? Post by jonnycab on May 18th, 2006, 1:57am You can get front discs & pads for as little as £30.00. But for good ones (I hate to say it) Halfords do Ferodo discs for £20 each & Ferodo Pads for £25. I've found that cheap brake discs warp to easily & cheap pads seem to blacken your alloys quite quickly. I've recently fitted Ferodo's from (I hate to admit it) Halfords, & they seem to be top notch. |
