Title: Rear Axle Driveshaft
Post by Mummra on May 23rd, 2006, 9:29pm
Hi guys, I am after a bit of advice. The 2.3 Auto Estate I have has a knocking noise from the rear at low speed, which I have tracked down to the CV joint on the Rear Axle Driveshaft. What I want ask is does anybody know if the driveshafts are the same for all models, as I have a 2.9 Auto Estate I am scrapping and thought I might be able to use one from there.

Cheers

Dave

If the 2.9 is a 12V then I think yes, the cossie ones are 108mm.

Look at the two diffs, if they look the same then your defo O.K but some later cars had a different diff, not 100% the driveshafts are the same?

Well I've been looking on ebay and the ones on there seem to be listed by engine size so guessing they are all different.

Anybody got a n/s rear axle driveshaft for a 2.3 available please.

Cheers

Dave

I think I have one but if the spare car is a 12V you already have one.
Only difference is the Cossie which use 2wd Sierra Cossie ones.

Most people on ebay don't have a clue what the parts they have fit only what they have took it off ;)

&
by the way they are handed as in one side is longer than the other.

Ok cheers I will have another look at it tomorrow, at first glance this evening the CV joint on the 2.9 did look slightly bigger, could just be me being over cautious. It certainly seems to be held on with larger bolts though.

I've just been reading this piece on overhauling the drive shaft, so may have it apart tomorrow and see how bad it really is.

Hmm well a 24V 's bolts are thicker & the C,V's are 108 instead of the 100mm the others have?

The last 12V I saw had 100mm c.v's.

Well I just took the one off the 12v and that is 108mm so different to the one I need which is 100mm.

That's bad luck, the last 12V I had I am sure was 100mm. ???

So you best get one from a 2.0L or 2.3 then.

I thought I had one but I must have sold them as they have gone.
