Greetings all,
Usual problem, sunroof will tilt up but won't slide open. While reading about this earlier, one correspondent had mentioned some success by tapping the seal all around with a block of wood so that it will then pass through hole in roof but is not a permanent solution; seal soon recovers its original (swollen) dimensions...

Cut a long story short, once after washing the car I discovered sunroof would then depress and slide back. Reason, soapy water had lubricated the seal. Following this revelation I now carry out periodic applications of vaseline to keep the sunroof sweet...

If you have same sort of problem you could try what I did - first tilt up sunroof to gain access to inside edge of roof. Clean this thoroughly of any accumulated mould and other grunge, then apply a smear of vaseline all around the inside edge. Similarly put some vaseline around the edge of the glass seal, especially on the back edge. Note that on mine the seal is joined end to end on the back edge and this has produced a pronounced lip here, and this is where it's mostly sticking I think.

It should then be possible to fully open the sunroof once the seal can push down through the roof thanks to the lubrication. (If the thing hasn't been properly opened for a long time and so is especially stiff then a little GENTLE pushing down on the back edge of the glass helps, but I say GENTLE!) Once you've got it fully open you can then get at and grease the runners etc. and waxoyl any corrosion and suchlike. Again it's not a permanent fix and needs repeating every few months. Fortunately mine's a manual winder, don't know what happens if the electric version gets stuck!

At present mine will open and will tilt but if you've tilted it then the first slide is accompanied by a sharp "crack" sound as it first dips down. It then runs back ok. If you don't tilt it then it'll slide open and shut time after time without any noise.

Seal lhas been lubricated with a silicone lubricant.

Any thoughts anyone?

i had the same probs with my sun roof it was slow going back but after a few movements back and forth all is ok now but ill grease the cables with a light oil and keep an eye on it from time to time thanks for for the advice ;D

Hello again,
"If you don't tilt it then it'll slide open and shut time after time" yes I meant to mention that since I've discovered that if I close it from fully slid open on the handle, making sure to avoid even the beginning of tilt mode once shut, then it seems to keep the seal compressed and hence so far it slides and/or tilts without any real difficulty. I.e. the top of the glass is flush with the roof. (After tilting only it tends to remain slightly proud, so bit of slack in the mechanism then)
