Will the thermostat from a 2.9 (12v or 24v) fit a 2.0 16v?

I finally got around checking my stat, as I've been having problems with the temperature (too cold), and it had seized in the fully open position.

I browse through the parts lists of "biltema" and all I can find is

Scorpio 2.9 95-98
Scorpio 2.9i 95-98
Scorpio 6 syl 54mm -93
Scorpio 4syl DOHC -93
Scorpio 4syl non-DOHC -93

Will any of these fit my 16v?

The T-stat from the 2.9 24 will not fit shurley. I think an escort 98 model had the same T-stat.

They have stats for these:

Escort 92-
Escort 1.4 88-
Escort 1.6 88-
Escort 1.6 16v 92-
Escort 1.8 16v 92-
Escort 1.8d 92-

Any of those?

Why dont you just buy the thermostat from your local FMD, The thermostat dont costs much money!

Prefer not to. My FMD hasn't shown excellence in their trade, to say it nice.

Besides, biltema sells stats for £6.

I found another place which does have the correct one listed. £15.88 incl gasket. Think I'll go for that one.
Think I'm going to change the belt as well. It is starting to show cracks and doesn't cost more than £11.

In microcat the T-stat for the 2.0 DOHC EFI 136 HP has the finis no: 6994257 and an O-ring with 1092262. I don't know how exact is the info. But searching for other cars it gave me that it was fitted on escort 95, orion and fiesta 95 CVH type.

I just got one from my FMD, stat and O ring were under £10. A lot of after market stats dont have the airlock bleed hole, so beware. For the sake of a couple of quid....

You coud try, i'm in romania and some scorpio bits have incredible stupid high prices ;), but the T-sat was cheap, about 10 GBP (14 euros) including VAT, the O-ring was 1.5 GBP (about 2 euros).

As I said in a previous post on the subject.
I have yet to find a pattern thermostat that fits. They all seem to be slightly bigger in diameter & once you get the rubber ring on, then they just will not fit the housing hole nicely. Proper ones are £13.95 inc vat from a FMD.

Most pattern parts state that they fit Sierra/Granada/Scorpio, but they don't. The people who make these dodgy parts obviously never check that a Scorpio is a totally different car to the Granada.

I got the £15.88 one today, and that one fitted perfectly. Even had the hole in the top to let through air. Manufactured by Wahler.

The cheap belt however, did not fit, even though their parts catalogue stated it should. It was about 2cm too long. I don't suppose there is a way to adjust the belt tensioner?

As the belt tensioner is self adjusting then I wouldn't think that any manual adjustment is possible.

Returned the belt and got my money back, then got the correct one. Fits perfectly.

Now the car is up to normal temp in next to no time, doesn't overheat (didn't before either, luckily ;D) and I don't have to worry about losing the belt. All is good ;D

Edit: Even the new Defa alarm is on its way (for those who remember my intermittent starting problems).. Will probably have to bother you all again in a few days, trying to sort out the loom for the electric windows and possibly the doors ;D
