Title: Easiest way to drain petrol?
Post by Daven on Jun 7th, 2006, 7:30am
Have obtained a scrap Nreg 2ltr for parts but it has about a 1/4 tank of petrol - what is the easiest way of draining it without spilling? :)

Cheers

I usually drop the tank first then empty it

Cheers - wondered if that was the easiest! Didn't know if I could take a hose off the front end somewhere and pump it out that way!

possibly you could, dunno if you'd get it all out though

while at a scrappy i noticed one of the blokes wack a few hole into the tank with a pick axe, it was very effective at draining the tank lol }{ }{

any ways, couldnt you get a bit of pipe and siphon it off?

Thanks lads, will have a look this weekend.

Don't like the taste of petrol so not going down the siphon route (has the Scorp got an anti siphon trap anyway?)  :P :D

As the car is on my drive I don't want any spillage and it would be a waste not to use the fuel so I would prefer to skim the top half instead of getting any dregs from the bottom :D

If it runs just look under the bonnet for the 2 fuel lines to the back and right of your engine bay, one will have a WHITE connector which is your fuel feed and the other has a RED connector which is your fuel return. disconnect the fuel return connector, put it in your petrol can or add some extra pipe to direct it where you want it, taking care to avoid obvious hazards and then just fire her up! (excuse the pun) Revving won't increase the flow so just let her tick over til she runs dry.

i tried that with my estate, (more like i forgot to plug the lines in after removing the cylinder head  :-X :-X)

you can just disconnect the white one and turn the ignition to pos 2, that kicked the fule pump in on it which would mean it doesnt have to be a runner, so long as the battery has some charge. or do i have a electrical prob (runs fine though)

You can pump it directly from the fuel feed line - this will mean you don't have to have the engine running.  However I believe the ECU will shut off the fuel pump after a few seconds running unless the engine is cranking so you may want to find the fuel pump relay and just bridge the contacts manually!

Well did it by using the fuel feed (White) but as the engine wouldn't start I had to keep turning the electrics on and off as Darren has said the ECU shuts the fuel pump off after a couple of seconds - was like milking a cow ;D

Did think about bridging the relay but it was just as easy using the key!
Got just over a quarter of a tank out of it :D :D and heard the low fuel 'bong' for the first time :)

Thanks guys

couldnt you of just unpluged the spark plugs and let the engine crank over on the starter motor?

Take a blow torch and burn a hole in the bottom of the tank. Once you burn through the metal, the petrol will be gone in a flash.......................literally!! ;D

I did for a while but the battery was nearly flat and I needed to get the car towed away this week - it was no bother honest   :-/ ;)

Baz - any other time I would have - believe me! But the car was only a couple of feet away from our new double glazed window and I didn't want them to melt :D

Cheers
