Title: Plastic Cover
Post by DJWerkz on Jun 8th, 2006, 11:01am
Hi members!

I noticed the other day on my car that when I lift the bonnet there is a black plastic shroud/cover in front of the radiator.  It's fixed right next to the off-side head lamp unit.

Thing is, I don't have one covering the AC top-up unit/air intake pipe.  The fixings are there though.

Should there be one or am I right in thinking it should not have a shroud on this side as it restricts air flow to the intake pipe?

Answer is 'yes' it should have a cover.  Do you think it's been removed to assist air-flow to the intake?  Seems a bit strange to have a plastic cover right in front of the intake pipe???

Yes I suppose it is a bit odd, but would have thought it has more likely just been taken off in the past and accidentally not replaced (by a previous owner maybe?)

My cossie doesn't have the cover, my diesel had it fitted but i took it off and bought some flexible induction pipe and stuck it on the intake nozzle and bent it round so that air would go through the grill and straight into the intake. Basically forced induction. Only problem is it acts like a hoover and the filter gets dirty quicker, but i change it every 5k miles when i service the car so i doesn't matter. It might be there to stop water getting in and to protect the air con condenser.

I change my filter very regular so I think I will leave the cover off,...not that I have a cover anyway, previous owner must have mis-placed it.
