Title: Wet Footwell Problem solved.
Post by Spannerdemon on Jun 29th, 2006, 5:41pm
Recently had a problem with our 12v 2.9 which thanks to being pointed in the right direction by  Jonnycab, has been sorted.

On the main faultfinder index :

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/faultfinds.htm

It mentions checking your battery drain holes if you have a wet footwell. In my case, the corrosion under the battery must have actually corroded a tiny area of the bulkhead leading into the footwell area. Water had run down the wiring, and straight into the ECU unit. The pins were badly corroded and shorting.

So if you have a rough running/starting problem combined with a wet passenger floorwell  it just might be well worth checking this out, as it could well be the cause of YOUR problem.

Mine cleaned off OK, but I had a loose pin on the ECU, so I've replaced the unit (Thanks to Ady for that one).  ;D

The replacement ECU is now fitted and 'learning' my settings, and should settle down after a day or so. The original one will be kept for spares/backup.....just in case!
.
I did actually find a guy who repairs the ECU units which might be useful to anyone who may need it (for any car).

Cheers Ady.

Nice to meet you and your good lady today, and Thanks again for meeting me in Exeter with the ECU.

That is one dead cute pup. My missus fell in love with it, and it will grow into a BIG dog!!

You'll have to sell your Scorp to feed it soon!!

Cheers M8  ;D
