Hi all,

Just an update on my cossie. I was getting 25mpg on the motorway, which i took to be the norm. However, the engine didnt feel quite right, and soon after purchase started to have hot start issues. I begged a scan from Andy ;D and discovered the LTFTs were way off the scale (particularly on Bank 1), and the post-cat sensors were showing not much action on that side (n/s). The car was richening up !!

After checking for air leaks and cleaning the MAF, I decided to bite the bullet and get the Fuel Pressure Regulator replaced (£50 + 3hrs labour). I begged another scan from Andy ;D which has confirmed that the LTFTs are back to 0% and 5%, without a battery reset and 500 miles. My mpg is now 29mpg on the motorway, and there is now life post-cat (may have saved both cats). Engine now feels right.

I know this is documented on the site, but thought i would share that this has made a big difference to the car, and definately works if you have the above symptoms. Andy and I can provide pre and post operation scans to show the difference if anyone is interested.....

All i need now is another IACV to sort out the sticky idle (anyone got a working one on the cheap?), and a couple of wishbones, and i can start thinking about installing some toys ;)

The IACV can be cleaned, if it doesn't work from the first time...clean it a few times more (fill it with carb cleaner)....let it dry, add some light oil on the shaft, it will eventaly work....well on my scorp it did ;)

yep, its been cleaned twice, but is worse not better. when moving the rod, it seems very loose, almost no pressure to make it slide. is there supposed to be a spring in there? i only see a rod......

thought it would be easier to replace at this stage and see if the symptoms go away. anyone got one?

The IACV definitely has a spring in it !!. It can hardly have escaped as it surrounds the 'rod'.It is in the front chamber,ie.furthest away from the electrical connector. The diagram is here http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/iacvdata.htm.

hmmm, i cant see a spring, just a spindle. Idle was fine, then garage replaced fuel regulator, and instructed to "give the IACV" a clean.

now idle jumps to 1500rpm when car driven then put into P. also seems to thump into gear now (i guess engine revs between gears). did they disturb it?

methinks its time to try another known-working one.....

If there isn't a spring in there somthing is wrong.....i can't imagine how it could got of the shaft......
