Does anyone have any information about the pre production cosworth engines produced by burton and cosworth? i have purchased a cos 24v with carb, dissy on a belt drive with different rocker tops and non hydraulic tappets, would like to know some history about this engine?

Yours maybe a Brian Hart engine.

That's the guy who orginally came up with the 24V engine in around 1987.

Cosworth bought the idea from him then Ford/Cosworth made it into what was fitted to the Granada in 1991.

Can you send me some pictures then I might be able to tell you more.

There is also a 24V Essex so are you sure it's a Cologne based engine?

thanks for the info, i spoke to a chap who said it was a Brian Hart engine, it was one of ten castings made before cosworth and ford bought the design. I have removed the sump only to find a crank web weight and bits of piston, so looks like a rebuild! just goes to show that an engine that revs to about 7500-8000 rpm and sounds sweet as a nut can still have nasty surprises!!  :-/
