Title: Re: Diesel auto box Post by discodave on Sep 14th, 2006, 7:32am Only reason i suggest it is i bought car to tow with then found out cant tow with diesel autos. if i bought complete scrap manual car i could kill birds with one stone but like you say a lot of hassle. if any ones got a good second hand auto box i would be interested to hear from them. Halfish whether to cut my losses and put car through auction as i have still got my old mint con disco. Believe it or not scorpio is only slightly more economical than disco, a lot more comlicated and a lot less useful!!! |

Title: Re: Diesel auto box Post by taliban on Sep 14th, 2006, 11:57am disco, what you have is a very rare model, only made for about 12 months. the link highlander posted to steve savill is the only diesel autobox i've seen for sale and would be worth buying as an investment to go with your car even if you dont use it. i take the problem you have is definately the box, you've cleaned the MAF etc? as for fuel economy my manual diesel returns about 22-24 round town but on a run 38-45. the handbook gives figures of 27 round town and 47 on a run, but manufacturers carry out tests on rolling roads not real conditions and my car is 11 years old so im not unhappy with my mpg. 'Believe it or not scorpio is only slightly more economical than disco, a lot more comlicated and a lot less useful!!! ' depends what you want from the car really, even though ford made the diesel option the scorp is a luxurious cruiser more than a rattly farmer palmer workhorse. i know quite a few people bought them for towing caravans ( the previous owner of mine used to tow a caravan to spain every year, half my service history is in spanish), but that might've been due to lack of choice at the time; volvo's, disco's, a few models in the (R) over range and not too much else. |

Title: Re: Diesel auto box Post by discodave on Sep 15th, 2006, 6:11pm Just took car to an independant specialist, who ran diognostic again. He told me that there was no electrical signals at all getting to gear box. if u move through gears manualy the engine will rev to max but pick up is slow and the car is stuck in get u home mode. So two definate electrical problems. There are no engine fault codes showing at this point. The man told me that the electrical problems can only be due to ecu itsellf. I have a contact of company who will chck and repair e.c.us for the right money. will do this next week. Incidently this latest specialist is the 3rd autobox garage who have looked at car and they have all said gearbox is mechanically fine. The guy who did the first engine diognostic was head mechanic at a ford main dealership and he said gearbox was f**ked. It is certainly food for thought.. ... |
