Title: Reversing sensors Post by cossieguy on Sep 15th, 2006, 4:12pm I'm soooooo happy :) Fitted my reversing sensors today, the entire fit apart from the sensors on the bumper is invisible. Took alot of time hiding/feeding the control wires but boy am i glad i did. Playing with it and it stops me 20cm short of my other car(Just enough room to get into boot). Not bad for £25 of eBay (went for audible alarm only) and 2 hours of my time fitting. Got that "I could do anything" feeling, best walk away from car before i break something!!!!!!!!! PM me if you want pics and a write up of job I did. Even Wife was mildly impressed! :o :o :o |

Title: Re: Reversing sensors Post by cossieguy on Sep 15th, 2006, 8:09pm Sorry to hear about the prang :( Hope it doesn't take too long to get it right. Cutting the bumper was probably the easiest though nerviest bit ::) Tapped into n/s 12v feed to reverse light, fed down same route as power to lights take, then across underneath speaker shelf to mounting point just under the o/s speaker. Hardest part was getting sensor cables from outside into boot. This was solved using existing grommet on o/s under carpet which brings the two rear number plate cables in, gently eased the middle of the grommet open further and fed cables through. Took into rear o/s light cluster then up and across under side carpet trim. popped out just next to o/s boot arm and across to ctrl box. Mounted speaker next to underside of o/s speaker(Very loud so didn't want it in cabin) job jobbed :) If you want any pics give me a shout. |

Title: Re: Reversing sensors Post by cossie_al on Sep 15th, 2006, 9:04pm Hi cossie guy, I just got one off ebay also. you say you were nervous cutting the bumper. My car is going into the dealers for a new rear bumper, lights and paint etc I will be fitting my system when it comes back. Putting a drill to a new bumper with new paint :o I bet the drill skates off and wrecks my new bumper. Either that or I will chicken out and not fit it. ;D ;D ;D |

Title: Re: Reversing sensors Post by Matt on Sep 15th, 2006, 9:10pm well dont use a center punch to guide ur drill or u'll need a new bumper }{ }{, but, if you want to make a small starting point, use a hot soldering iron or such which will only melt the plastic where the tip touches, works well, ive done it a few times and plan to do it on the scorps bumper when i fit mine |

Title: Re: Reversing sensors Post by cossie_al on Sep 15th, 2006, 9:14pm And there was I thinking the soldering iron trick was little known, used it a few times on bike fairings etc just goes to show a bit of thinking before acting realy does pay off |

Title: Re: Reversing sensors Post by Matt on Sep 15th, 2006, 9:18pm im an engineer by trade, it's funny how little things like that can really help ;D plus £20 or £30 for a new iron vs £150 - £200 (about right?) for a rear bumper |

Title: Re: Reversing sensors Post by hellblue on Sep 15th, 2006, 9:26pm Do look at the back of the bumper too as you wouldnt want to drill into the edge of the box section ! |

Title: Re: Reversing sensors Post by cossie_al on Sep 15th, 2006, 9:26pm I tell you what mate its amazing how little tricks like that realy can pay dividends. I am no engineer but I am a qualified mechanic (no longer able to work) and I have done a fair bit of amatuer engineering. The last major project was a trike built using a renault 5 gt turbo engine and some of the running gear on a chasis built from scratch. That was one scary piece of kit but the best thing was it was for a female freind of mine ::) |

Title: Re: Reversing sensors Post by cossie_al on Sep 15th, 2006, 9:42pm NICE ;D When I had my CBR1000 I had a sticker on the number plate "To much is never enough" I kinda think those chain saw guys perhaps must have read it at some point ;D |
