FMD says obsolete.Mine is V95TF 9H589 DBB,on 2.9 12v.Is there a knowledgeable person out there who is able to point me in the direction of a solution.Preferably a new loom either old stock or made up.I would be hard pressed to find time to make one up myself even if I could get the right bits. knowledgeable person out there who can |

Title: Re: Engine wiring loom 2.9 12v Post by Geoff_W on Sep 17th, 2006, 9:03pm First of all welcome! This may not be particularily helpful, but I have not heard of 12valves with the loom rot problem, 16valves and 24valves yes but 12valve no, Snoopy has a 12valve and will almost certainly know if there is a straight forward fix. I have one as well, can you give any ideas about where on the loom that things have gone flakey? Geoff |

Title: Re: Engine wiring loom 2.9 12v Post by TiberiuS on Sep 17th, 2006, 9:26pm Well, it seems as though a lot of Scorpios are developing this problem. You could source some connectors from a newer Ford and make a loom yourself but it is a long, tedious job. Or you could look for an auto electrician who was willing to make you a new loom. Is it the whole loom which is going or just the parts over the engine? You could get away with patching it for now but if the damage is bad you're better off trying to source a NOS one. I don't think this problem is confined to the Scorpio, the ignition loom on our Mondeo is showing signs too. Welcome aboard and good luck :) Regards, Bruce. |

Title: Re: Engine wiring loom 2.9 12v Post by twinturbo on Sep 18th, 2006, 11:43am I have the engine loom from a 1989 sierra 2.9 12V sitting here. Never heard of any problems on the sierra. TT |

Title: Re: Engine wiring loom 2.9 12v Post by Gozz on Sep 18th, 2006, 3:19pm Thanks to all you helpful lads re the disintegrating engine loom.Geoff it is all pretty grim in the engine area,I am about to detape the bit below the large connector on the offside inner wing, after a large single malt!cossie_al,I am down the A1 at Peterborough, but thanks a lot for the offer.TT would the Sierra suffice?mine is an automatic with wiring to the transmission :) |

Title: Re: Engine wiring loom 2.9 12v Post by twinturbo on Sep 18th, 2006, 3:27pm No idea, the sierra engine loom hooks to the car loom via 1 6pin oval, a single blade connector. There's not a lot on the loom. ECT, Injectors, Temp Guage, iscv and tps.. Not sure how it compares with the scorpio one. TT |

Title: Re: Engine wiring loom 2.9 12v Post by TiberiuS on Sep 18th, 2006, 3:46pm Its doubtful if one from a Sierra would fit. I made a new loom for my 2.3 a while back, now it looks as though I'll be doing the same with the Mondeo before long. If I can get hold of any spare connectors, you're welcome to them. Regards, Bruce :). |

Title: Re: Engine wiring loom 2.9 12v Post by Gozz on Sep 18th, 2006, 11:27pm TT.Thanks, but it does'nt sound at all the same.Tiberius.You are right I think, and thanks for the offer of connectors.Mummra.You are'nt a million miles away.I just missed a 12 valve at one of the local scrappies, they crushed it!But there are two more there,a 2.3 and a 2lt.The bit I need is the entire engine loom from the square connector on the O/S inner wing, right through to the autobox.I assume that mine is of the infamous"Arnitel"variety, hence it's state! I believe they were only used on the very early cars. GOZZ :) |

Title: Re: Engine wiring loom 2.9 12v Post by howiedintheplace on Sep 18th, 2006, 11:37pm The Sierra engine loom is very different to a Scorp. Yeah the loom is made of the same rubbish as fitted to the other cars. It lasts longer on the 12V as it don't get as hot where the wires run. Even late Granada's suffer from it. You should find a decent one as most are O.K. (must be a Scorp one) Just wrap some more tape round the new one & it should last as long as your car will ;) |
