Title: IACV removal Post by cossieguy on Oct 3rd, 2006, 4:23pm Went to take my IACV off to give it a clean etc. One of the screws/bolts wont come off and the screwhead has started to bend/mishape when trying to unscrew it, as they're soft metal heads. Can hardly get a screwdriver onto it now! Any suggestions on a way forward ??? Have tried soaking with WD40 but still seized. |

Title: Re: IACV removal Post by Dave on Oct 3rd, 2006, 5:14pm Should be 2 x 10mm bolts on there unless I am very much mistaken. If the bolts are rounding can you try a gently hammering (theres 2 words that don't go together) a smaller socket on there? Like a 9mm or sommat? |

Title: Re: IACV removal Post by cossieguy on Oct 3rd, 2006, 5:47pm Not sure if i'm trying to undo the wrong ones then? I'm trying to undo the ones on the left hand side of the iacv (with phillips threads in them) as you look at it. Do these need to be undone during the cleaning process? or do you just take the whole unit off and undo the plastic cover on the end? Have seen the how to from the G and S site but it doesn't make clear which ones to undo. |

Title: Re: IACV removal Post by cossie_al on Oct 3rd, 2006, 7:07pm The two 10mm bolts fasten it to the engine and the two cross/philips head bolts are used to take the iacv apart. When I did mine I undid the electrical plug and then unbolted the whole thing from the engine and worked on it on the bench. I actualy managed to loosen the philips head bolts with a small pair of mole grips, pliars would probably do it. When I reinstalled it I reffited it with allen studs instead of the philips heads. |

Title: Re: IACV removal Post by twinturbo on Oct 3rd, 2006, 7:07pm Your trying to take the solenoid of the valve. You don't need to undoo them just the two bolts holding the assembly to the plenum Make sure you don't damage the gasket. The screws holding the solenoid on do often round off.. TT |

Title: Re: IACV removal Post by cossieguy on Oct 3rd, 2006, 9:23pm Thanks TT and cossie_al, would have carried on trying to loosen the wrong ones and would have got myself into a right pickle :-[ However i assume i'm going to have to loosen it to clean the inside of the iacv? |

Title: Re: IACV removal Post by Simmo on Oct 4th, 2006, 6:42am I believe it is a slightly different design on the Cosworth but on the 2.0ltr once it is off the car there are two 'ports' and you can see the spring and shaft clearly. You need to a good spray of carb cleaner and then a drop of 3in1. You can activate the shaft with a small pair of long nose pliers or a screwdriver to ensure it is moving freely. |

Title: Re: IACV removal Post by Simmo on Oct 4th, 2006, 8:17am The idea is to clean and lubricate the shaft which the spring sits round so that there is minimal resistance when the solenoid is activated. |
