Title: Re: What Coolant???? Post by mr._floppy on Oct 4th, 2006, 11:41am Typical of Ford to recommend its own brand but any decent blue stuff from Poundstretchers will do ( Members from The Home Counties may not have heard of that esteemed retail outlet ::) ) 50/50 is the usual ratio. |

Title: Re: What Coolant???? Post by Octavian_P on Oct 4th, 2006, 2:20pm When buying antifreeze beware of the red colored one, it is based on organic acids and can disolve your orings and water hoses Green / Blue stuff is ok. |

Title: Re: What Coolant???? Post by RON on Oct 4th, 2006, 10:16pm Many thanks to you all for your advice. I will just stick to the blue stuff then. I was just a bit worried about the glycol stuff that was mentioned in the "Ford Book", but you all have said the same, so i'm quite happy. Many thanks again. Ron |

Title: Re: What Coolant???? Post by - Mike - on Oct 5th, 2006, 5:05pm Not all red antifreeze contains silicate, Vauxhalls doesn't and it is fully backward compatiable for all vehicles prior to MY2001 and is able to be mixed with traditional coolant in any quantity. It can deliver up to five year/150.000 mile protection when all of the old blue/green antifreeze has been drained and the cooling system thoroughly flushed before refilling with the appropriate mix of red antifreeze. There is no compatibility problems with seals, hoses or plastic components and has effective long-term corrosion protection for all cooling system metals including aluminium, brass, cast iron, steel, solder and copper. It also delivers extended water pump life. This information was gained by extensive fleet testing over a distance exceeding 100.000.000km using a selection of 540 vehicles, including cars, light commercials and trucks, all of which were closely monitored. Part no. 93170402 for 1ltr @ £2.44 inc vat and 93165162 for 5ltr @ £10.93 inc vat. I have had this in my system now for the last two years with NO problems what so ever. HTH Mike |
