Title: What is this? Post by Kjetil S on Oct 8th, 2006, 12:30pm Found this when I replaced a burst coolant pipe: http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f41/kskjon/DSC00003.jpg One of the wires going into it is loose and the other is cracked. The temp gauge is working normally, so it can't be the temp sensor for that, and iirc the fans should come on at full blast if it was the other temp sensor? |

Title: Re: What is this? Post by Simmo on Oct 8th, 2006, 12:41pm The picture isn't that clear but if the units are side by side then I'm pretty sure it is the temperature sensor for the engine management system. The temp guage sensor only has one wire to it iirc, whereas the 'other one' has two. |

Title: Re: What is this? Post by Kjetil S on Oct 8th, 2006, 1:00pm You're probably right. Should probably keep an eye on the temp gauge then? |

Title: Re: What is this? Post by Simmo on Oct 8th, 2006, 1:08pm I think you'll find that the temperature guage is fed directly from its own sensor. The other one,provides the engine coolant tremperature,and feeds that info to the EECV. If it is not connected properly it is likely to cause problems of fuel consumption or starting as the system presumably doesn't know if the engine is warm or cold.This (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/eecv.htm) may help explain its role. Scroll down the page. |

Title: Re: What is this? Post by Kjetil S on Oct 8th, 2006, 1:12pm I knew the part with the temp gauge having it's own sensor (re my first post ;)) But if the fans (amongst other things) are controlled by this one, then it might be that they won't come on when needed. (just guessing here) |

Title: Re: What is this? Post by mr._floppy on Oct 9th, 2006, 12:23am It's the temp gauge sender, the one with the push -on rubber cap fixed on to a threaded post. |

Title: Re: What is this? Post by Simmo on Oct 9th, 2006, 7:04am If that's the one your talking about ,rubber cap and a threaded post then it is the temperature guage sender as Mr Floppy says. |

Title: Re: What is this? Post by Kjetil S on Oct 9th, 2006, 9:03am It's push on, yes. Why is the temp gauge still working then ??? |
||
Title: Re: What is this? Post by mr._floppy on Oct 9th, 2006, 11:07am The temp sender only requires one wire, so I don't know what the other one is for :( |

Sorry 'bout that but the macro function on a mobile isn't perfect, to say the least ;) As far as I can see, it's the only push fit connector directly between the throttle body and alternator. |

Title: Re: What is this? Post by Kjetil S on Oct 9th, 2006, 12:55pm 2.0 16v |

Title: Re: What is this? Post by jonnycab on Oct 10th, 2006, 12:29am Looks like the temp guage sender to me as well. Have you tried pulling off the plug & seeing if the temp gauge still works? :) |
