Title: Scorpio First Timer Keys Question
Post by David_Balcon on Oct 9th, 2006, 2:15pm
Hi All

Well I picked up my first Scorpio today, a 1995 24V Ultima Estate with 69K miles on it in what looks to be pretty good condition (apart from a bit of scabbing on the lower edge of the sills)

The car has only got one key with it, no red key and no remotes. Is this going to cause me problems? If so is a very expensive to put right.

I intend this to be a long term purchase, it's going in for an LPG conversion on Thursday. So I'd rather sort any issues out sooner rather than later.

David

WELCOME     DAVID.

You can get a new Red Key from a Ford Dealer if you can prove ownership of the vehicle. It will have to be coded to the PATS (Security) module by them.

Read this:  http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/pats.htm

You'd be wise to get one. because you'll need it to programme remote control units and spare keys. You can then use your 'normal key' for all other use.

I keep my red key safely locked away, and the only time I'd carry it with me is if, say, we took the car abroad, just in case of problems or loss of the nother keys.

You say you are looking at the car as a long term car, so I'd definitely buy one myself.

I THINK BAZ has LPG.....not sure...... ;D  ;D

Hi David, welcome to the site  :)

As above Ford can supply a replacement red key for your car.

Snoopy (Dave, a member on here) has posted these details in the past:

http://www.home-own.co.uk/ala/

They are locksmiths who supply 1 red key and black keys for about £60 as here (3rd post):

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Advice;action=display;num=1143322068;start=2#2

As for remotes, any Scorpio remote can be programmed to your car yourself. Look out for ones for sale on here, post in the wanted section or have a look on eBay to see whats about.

Hope this helps  :)

sorry to correct, but just to clarify 1 thing, you wont need the master key to programme the remote to the car,you can read how easy it is to programme the remote  HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/remote.htm)

Hi Craig:  Yeah I didn't word that very well, but he can programme his remotes from an already programmed key (which presumably is what he has), but to be on the safe side as far as his PATS goes, he'd be wise (I think) to get a new set made up and programmed.

Hope you're OK. How are you enjoying the Livebox?  :D

All the best SD

Thanks for all your input guys; from what you've said I guess I'd better make it down to the dealers for a new key set and a reprogramme. I've got to pop in to pick up my battery cover today (why do these go missing?).

I've had a go at clearing the bulkhead drain holes, the drivers side was a pig, the battery side is a big slot so was easy (or did I miss the batteryside hole altogether?)

The rev counter went all over the place after the car was sitting in the rain overnight but has calmed down now. I've WD40'd everything under the bonnet and fingers crossed.

This (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/battery.htm) may help re the battery side. The dials'flicking round' is a sign of battery problems or as you obviously suspect water ingress. Its mentioned in the article. You can use a hairdryer....gently..... on the fuseboxes and some owners put a sachet of 'silica gel' in them to keep moisture at bay.
