Title: Cleaning competition.
Post by cossieguy on Oct 16th, 2006, 8:49am
Just spent over the weekend 16 hours cleaning the cossie ;D
Washed a panel seperatly then t-cut,polished and put 3 layers of wax on,then moved to next panel. Am I the saddest owner on here? or can someone beat my anal cleaning routine?
PS Only do this 2 times a year (Just before summer and winter)
Can hardly type my arms/wrists are now jelly after all the polishing.
Guy.

Colour of car is Aubergine, no sunlight, so looks kind of black!

nice.... but you really should get an electric buffer, B&Q sell them.... no jelly arms with them.

Mine being silver; it doesn't shine like that unfortunately!

Baz, never used a buffer so excuse my ignorance but, What can you put down with them? Guess you'd have to t-cut by hand still? Will it put down polish and wax? Wouldn't mind getting a 240v one can you or anyone recommend a good one that doesn't cost the earth(Seen them on eBay for £100ish :o)

cossie, you're not alone, i've always found cleaning my vehicles theraputic, motorbike or car, and once spent 3 days cutting and polishing a chevvy i had, brought it back from cream white to brilliant diamond white. unfortunately my scorps paintwork isnt that good, could do with various chips being sorted.
as for the buffer, some years ago i bought a 240v one thinking it would be better than 12v, maybe it was me, they way i was trying to use it, or maybe it didnt have the wattage? but as soon i pressed it down to rub in some polish, the hard waxy type, it'd stop spinning, so i gave up with it, might dig it out soon though and have another go...

I brush the carpets with a tooth brush to get that stripy lawn look. Specks of dust...be afraid, be very afraid ::)
I also polish the leather steering wheel with Neats foot polish, It gets off any hand grease and makes the leather feel like new. Smells good too :D
I have also been known to paint the rubber mats with tyre paint, and the tyres of course.

Obsession by Scorpiosis.........highly addictive ::)

for years i've used an electric toothbrush for nooks n crannies, especially useful for agitating the brake dust etc on alloy wheels...

Best thing to use on tired bodyowrk is a machine polisher (i.e angle grinder geared down to 3000rpm) with a soft foam to cut back the paint and then a bonnet/ soft cloth to polish off, just need to be careful to keep the foam damp and not to strike the panel edges the wrong way, ripping it to bits.

Paint on my car was bad when I bought it, looked like it'd been cleaned with a scourer; over time I've got it looking quite nice, the car isn't a minter and there's only so far I can go without getting it resprayed but it's got a nice lustre when I get around to putting the Autoglym Super Resin on ;). No T-Cut or Turtle Wax, Autoglym body restorer as a T-Cut and the Resin or high gloss, Autoglym for the wheels, boot polish for the boots :D.

I dread cleaning it but I hate driving around in a dirty motor, been using it so little lately that by the time I use it, it's getting dirty again :(. It always swallows a full day though, get out there at midday and it's always getting dark before it's done, you are not alone in your obsession mate ;).

Wish my car looked as good as that at the moment though, filthy dirty and waiting for the topcoat on the door edges before I even consider washing it...

...Watch this space :)

Regards, Bruce.
