Title: Alarm fitted or not? Post by harry.m1byt on Oct 16th, 2006, 10:00pm 2.9 12v late 1995 Ultima and I am trying to work out whether or not an alarm is fitted. It has the bonnet contact in a sort of large dish. I can't see any cabin internal motion sensors, I've tried holding the above contact down, locking it, waiting then releasing the contact to trigger it. I've tried locking by turning to unlock briefly, then forward to lock. Where would I look for the alarm noise maker and the alarm control box? note - I'm still trying to get hold of a remote keyfob, if this is the thing which is needed to arm the alarm. |

I've just had a look and yes there it is, as is the alarm module in the upper glove box (I think) -too dark to see much. |

Title: Re: Alarm fitted or not? Post by mr._floppy on Oct 17th, 2006, 9:35am Lift the bonnet up, lock the car with key or remote, check that the little red light on top of dash is flashing then depress the bonnet switch a few times, the alarm should go off. If not, check that the previous owner hasn't disconnected the alarm horn ( indicating probs with the alarm in the past ). |

The light didn't flash at all when I got it, but it works now (the light that is). It still doesn't light up when I lock it, which rather suggests all is not well with the alarm. Previous owner suggests that it did work, in fact it triggered quite regularly, but he also said the cruise control was working, that its fuel consumption was reasonable and that the tick over was spot on - so I'm not quite sure whether to believe that the alarm worked. |

Title: Re: Alarm fitted or not? Post by harry.m1byt on Oct 19th, 2006, 12:38am I am slowly arriving at the conclusion that the alarm control module is the unit with three multi-plugs, accessible by removing the glove box lid, which I understand also operates door locks. This despite the Ford TIS hinting that this is the multiplex control module unit linking into the (assumed) separate alarm module. Now supposing I could find a replacement, does this module also control the PATS (the ignition key recognition system)? If it did, it migght become a little complex without the original red key for the scappy obtained replacement module. Apologies for rambling on, but I'm trying to get my head around what does what in this motor - there does not seem to be a TIS on the site which helps define indivual module function or help identify which unit is which and where it is located precisely. |

The information is coming together slowly (as is the car). What I have done this evening is completely disconnect that module behing the glove box with the 3x multi-plugs. It is marked with a (radio) licence free sticker, therefore it is the receiver for the key fob. The electric windows and central locking stopped working, but the PATS ignition key recognition system still functioned and I was still able to sucessfully start the car. So it seems likely I could test swap the module with a scrap yard one, without running into key problems. |
