Title: Uprating standard headlight bulbs.
Post by cossieguy on Oct 18th, 2006, 2:35pm
With winter coming and more "Dark" driving, would like to get Brighter/whiter headlights for my Scorp, with so much choice and wildly varying prices has anyone got advice or any recommendations for bulbs/manufacturers?
Cheers, Guy.

Don't  get  conned  with  them  " Blue"   bulbs,   they're  bluddae  useless

( just normal ones with a coating of light blue  nail varnish !!! ) .

You can get higher rated bulbs  than  the    H1 55 watt   standard ,  although

they're    illegal   and  could   well   melt  your  wiring.  :'(

Not really looking to get more "Powerful" bulbs, just want a whiter light (If that makes sense) the Scorps lights are good but rather yellow. Anyone fitted whiter bulbs? Seen some Philips bluevision ones for all the bulbs(Side, dipped and main) but they're £37 but are the 55w ones so match the original wattage.

I got some of these from ebay for less than £5 inc p+p from Hong Kong and they were here in less than a week.
Made a big differance and have been in for over a year with no problems, Also no problems when it's MOT time.
Just search for H1 bulbs ;)

I would be perhaps interested in some, once more of you confirm they do indeed improve the lighting. Anyone thought of changing the lamps on just one side, for a side by side comparison?

You can buy full dipped, main, fog and parking lights as the full Scorpio set on ebay for £17.

I am finding the Scorps lights not quite as good as they were on my Granada. I think they ought to be, from memory it uses the same wattages and number of lamps, so it must be the Scorpio's beam pattern.

it might be the type of bulb, H1, which seems to have a very definitive beam, whereas i think the old granny uses H4 which has a more 'spread' beam..
i'll let you know what they're like when i get the new bulbs, cossie would to, but he forgot to check the bidding lol

I recently installed a set of Philips "Pure White" on my car and it was an improvement over the yellowish bulbs that were fitted. Am thinking though of installing an aftermarket Xeon kit in my car. Anyone on here tried this?

im using 110watt in my main and dipped, they are bosch at £15 a pair, max watted is 110 not recommended to use 130 watt off road rally bulbs as they can melt your glass and wireing.

Wicked.... people on here in the paast have had wiring problems using the 110w lamps, be very careful especially coming up to winter when the lights are on for longer periods.

JerryVR, I have the xenon ones fitted to mine and they are brilliant when driving at night and on unlit roads. Took about an hour to fit properly and cost about £120.00. I fitted the LED sidelight bulbs to compliment
