Title: That mirror?
Post by harry.m1byt on Oct 28th, 2006, 2:17pm
Hi,

I am just wondering about the self dipping mirror, my curiosity is aroused and I need to know....

How is it supposed to work the dimming/dipping mechanism that is?

I got one a couple of weeks ago, one which had an internal oil leak- but what is the oil actually for? Is it intended for some hydraulic action which moves the mirror?

I tried my leaky one - covering the light sensor at the front and shining a light at the rear sensor and got no reaction, I never thought to try it with my road lights on - do these need to be on for it to operate?

Yours sincerly, puzzled.

Hi the fluid itself changes state and darkens (No mechanical process). The lights dont need to be on for it to work as power is apllied all the time (Green light) as long as switch underneath mirror is in.
Guy.

It's not oil! The fluid is actually HIGHLY corrosive and WILL ruin your interior if you let it drip.
If it's leaking, then it's broken.

The mirror works by using an optical sensor which triggers a monochromatic LCD-surface that darkens the glass.

Seriously good advice here. Get it OUT of your car.

If you don't..........You'll wish you had!!  :o
