Title: Rear Window!
Post by Sean_Mcknight on Oct 29th, 2006, 11:07am
Morning chaps, new to the forum!

On friday night, some little b**tard put the back screen window through on my 'N' plate scorpio ultima saloon, I have sourced a new back window and the cost is about £300 fitted!

However

A friend of mine has just decomissioned an early shape (mk4 granada if you will) Cosworth saloon, do any of you clever people know if the rear window is the same?? if it is, i can get it changed for £40 which is much better!

Failing that, can any of you bods supply a window?

All help appreciated of course, either reply on here or e-mail me seaniemcknight@aol.com

Thanks!

£300 does sound OTT as the rear windows are much cheaper than the front screen.

Grandson managed to get a second hand side fixed window installed for £20 (done on the side). Method of removal of the old damaged or a good replacement - is cutting the sealant with a cheese wire. They then use a motorised version of the silicon sealant applicator gun, due to the stiff consistency of the sealant. when cutting out the replacement, be wary of the connection

rear screens are expensive (new), less companies carry them as its the front that goes. 300 fitted seems quite reasonable to me, except it being an unwanted expense of course. when someone broke into mine smashing the drivers window, autoglass quoted 288 quid to come round at 7am and fit a new one, so i got one for a tenner and fitted it myself.
back in the late 80's i had a chevvy caprice coupe, the rear window had corners in it, i was chatting to an autoglass bloke i knew and out of interest he got a price on it, 1800 quid fitted, in 1988!

Yeah, the price was so high because no-one holds them, the car only cost £300 so if i cant get a window or the cossie one isnt the same, into the crusher she goes! (after removing any decent parts of course)

have you tried a 'part search'? theres a couple of companies that do it for free, you tell them what you want and they e mail breakers they have on their lists, if a breaker has the part they e mail or phone you directly.
failing that im sure steve savill has one, he has a couple of scorps he's breaking, dont know how much he'll charge and you'd probably have to collect from essex, but could be worth a call 07761246096

I think the truth is that, as knowledgeable some are on here, changing a rear screen is not a common job.
I don't know anyone who's taken one from a Granny and put it in a Scorp.

Its entirely possible it'll fit of course, but there are some surprising differences between the two models, so I couldn't guarantee it.

What you need is someone who has access to the MicroCat program who can maybe cross-reference part numbers.... or just do some careful measuring  :-/
