Title: Re: Head Gasket Set Post by Dave on Oct 31st, 2006, 4:30pm Keep an eye on eBay, they do come up now and then for about £25, brand new from a company on there. Think Baz bought one a while ago. |

Title: Re: Head Gasket Set Post by RichardMS on Oct 31st, 2006, 4:31pm Can't help you any more with that one then, What about a repacement engine. Perhaps someone else can help you more. |

Title: Re: Head Gasket Set Post by Dave on Oct 31st, 2006, 4:32pm Chaps got some here. Bit more than £25 but considerably less than £1200: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-SCORPIO-V6-COSWORTH-HEAD-GASKET-SET_W0QQitemZ4545259167QQihZ002QQcategoryZ21654QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem He also has another auction for the earlier engine - don't get the wrong one :) |

Title: Re: Head Gasket Set Post by drawlings on Oct 31st, 2006, 4:34pm Thats ok thanks for your help anyway mate. I just decided to double check with the guy doing the gasket on my car and found out that the part is £128 and the rest of £1200 is labour. |

Title: Re: Head Gasket Set Post by RichardMS on Oct 31st, 2006, 4:38pm What are they doing to it ?. |
||
Title: Re: Head Gasket Set Post by drawlings on Oct 31st, 2006, 4:41pm skimming the heads etc.... |
||
Title: Re: Head Gasket Set Post by twinturbo on Oct 31st, 2006, 8:30pm skim should not be more than £50 a side!!! £1200! I would find a good second hand engine ~£200 and pay to have it put in ~£400 ( well I would put it in myself ) TT |
||
Title: Re: Head Gasket Set Post by drawlings on Oct 31st, 2006, 9:50pm Cheers TT, that was next on my list. And considering the guy has his own skimming etc.. as he is a engine specialist. I found a engine with 80k for £350 that I may look at |

Title: Re: Head Gasket Set Post by twinturbo on Oct 31st, 2006, 10:22pm It's the best way to go especialy if you can see/hear the unit running.. Then you still have the old engine that you can have fully rebuilt at your leisure if you want... A good garage should be able to do the job in under two days unless they are supping too much coffee and checking the GG's... They could do it in a working day if they pull their finger out.. TT |
||
Title: Re: Head Gasket Set Post by drawlings on Oct 31st, 2006, 10:26pm TT any idea how much the head gasket job should cost. I must admit, I nearly pulled the guy through the other end of the phone when he told me how much it was going to cost |
||
Title: Re: Head Gasket Set Post by twinturbo on Oct 31st, 2006, 11:23pm Depends wher you are and the going labour rate. £30ph is normal here for a reputable indipendant. that would get you 40hrs of labour... Heads should be ready for lifting in about 3-4hrs... Setup and skim a couple of hours.. and put on 5-6 for reasembly.. Add 3hrs for thingyups... makes 15hrs... 2 days.. Either their labour rates are £60ph, or they work slow... TT |

Title: Re: Head Gasket Set Post by howiedintheplace on Nov 1st, 2006, 8:59am Is that quote from a Ford dealer, if so that's about right for them. Why do they want to skim the heads? What is wrong with your engine. Even if you get another engine you need to check the timing gear even if it does not rattle. 80% chance that there would be a problem & it is so much easier when the engine is out of the car. |
