Title: TEMPERATURE GUAGE
Post by Jacko on Oct 31st, 2006, 3:32pm
Just purchased my first Scorpio and am wondering if the temperature gauge should move to 3 o'clock position after driving for 20 mins or stay still. It doesn' seem to move ???

Or you could try the Instrument Reset.

You might take a look at:-

My gauge usually wondered about, but the same fault could have produced a cold reading and often did.

Have you checked that the engine is up to temperature? Feel around the water pump to check it is hot if not it will probably be the thermostat which has failed. Shorting the plug on top the sender unit to the engine should produce a maximum reading on the gauge, if not suspect the wiring, or a poor cnnection on the multi-plugs, or the gauge.

If the engine is hot and the shorting at the plug moves the gauge into the red, then the sender unit itself  must be faulty.

as it's the 2.3 i would suspect the sender unit, the one that screws into the inlet manifold, there are 2 senders,1 for the engine management (ignore that 1),and the 2nd for the actual gauge, about a year ago theyt were approx £15.00,cant see them being to dearer now  :-/
