Title: Bleeding cooling system
Post by ottopmh on Nov 2nd, 2006, 10:26am
Are there any knows issues with bleeding 2,3's cooling system?

Did not find any fact from the site. In some cars bleeding can be very tricky...

I'm planning to change the coolant and this just came to my mind.

Otto

Check out reply number 8 HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Problems;action=display;num=1150805119;start=8#8). Known as the 'Johnnycab' method ! :). The other way is to raise the front of the car, or park on an uphill gradient, and run the engine till hot with the cap off and rev it occasionally.

I used the Johnnycab method to great effect, it's amazing to actually watch the air disappear from the system in front of you. ;)

Hang on.......did you mean you wanted to bleed the air out or bleed the coolant out?

If the question was about bleeding the coolant out, then there is a protruding plastic cross headed bleed screw on the bottom of the rad (drivers side).
Can be a bit tight, so may need a pair of pliers to loosen it. ;)

if you're changing the coolant it is really simple; remove expansion tank cap, remove the bleed screw as jonny said (a 2 pence piece held in pliers works), coolant pours out, flush, refit drain plug, re fill.

Yep, the target is to drain and refill it. No probs with my another car (Sierra OHC), but I've heard that bleeding the air out of the system can be really difficult with Sierra DOHCs. Air tends to stuck to the heater matrix.

So that's why I started to wonder if there are such problems with Scorp as well.

Doesn't sound like it though.  But who knows, maybe I will give a try for jonnycab;)

Thanks again!
