Title: Re: ECU swap over Post by scorpio_man on Nov 17th, 2006, 10:25pm hi there don't think it would make much of a difference. think it was only the software that was changed. you may also find that the PATS system might not let the car start, as it will see something 'different'. hth |

Title: Re: ECU swap over Post by howiedintheplace on Nov 17th, 2006, 11:10pm You will be O.K with changing the ECU just don't mess with the PATS module next to it ;) |

Title: Re: ECU swap over Post by jonnycab on Nov 18th, 2006, 3:25am I experimented swapping my ECU / PCM (whatever you want to call it) with a spare one I had & the car wouldn't start. So maybe PATS didn't recognise it :-/ |

Title: Re: ECU swap over Post by Spannerdemon on Nov 18th, 2006, 4:21pm Have a look at THIS (http://www.the-ecu-doctor.co.uk/) which will help you make your mind up. This firm have a very good (like excellent) reputation, and are one of the biggest in the UK. It will answer a lot of your questions. Bear in mind that if you DO change your ECU, then your car will need several hours if not days to 'learn' all about YOUR car, rather than the car that it was previously fitted in. This could well cause you problems. Personally, I wouldn't change an ECU unit just for the sake of it. |

So far as I am aware, it it the CCM's software which decides whether it flashes on locking. |

Title: Re: ECU swap over Post by howiedintheplace on Nov 18th, 2006, 5:50pm ??? ??? So there is nothing wrong with your ECU, then there is no gain in changing it what's so ever. If you follow the correct way Ford detail to change it then you should have no problems. |

Title: Re: ECU swap over Post by wickedteen on Nov 18th, 2006, 5:57pm i just thought that the engine might run a bit smootherless fuel consumption, and flashing flashers |

Title: Re: ECU swap over Post by jonnycab on Nov 20th, 2006, 1:42am Non funtioning flashers are nothing to do with the ECU :) More likely fuse / fusebox / wiring prob ;) |

The indicator flashing on lock is dependent upon the CCModule and its programming. Ford can change this, but if your old car flashed change the CCM to the new car and it should also flash. I have just swapped my Aug '95 CCM which didn't flash, for a '96 CCM and it now flashes - see the full description which I posted just a few minutes ago in this forum. The swapping the CCM is the work of just a few minutes. Remove the glove box and it is the black plastic cased module directly in front of you, the one with three multi-sockets and perhaps only two occupied by plugs. Unplug, slide out, slide in the replacement, reconnect. You will then need to reprogram it to recognise your remote. |

Title: Re: ECU swap over Post by wickedteen on Nov 21st, 2006, 8:50am cheers guys, so after all of this we now know that its not the ecu that controls the indicators flashing when you set the alarm, its the CCM, cheers guys |
