Title: sidelight bulb change
Post by packard on Nov 23rd, 2006, 7:30pm
???
The sidelight bulb appears to have blown on my '98 2.3 scorp
How do I change it and what type of bulb is it?
Thanks

i think they're standard 'wedge' push in type, probably 5w

It is a wedge bulb 5W #501, You need to unclip the cover on the rear of the headlight under the bonnet, pull the bulb holder out and then pull out the bulb,, replace with new bulb and then replace the cover.

Have a read of THIS (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/images/handbook122.gif). The page enlarges if you click on the lower right corner.

Harder than it seems and I've got slim fingers >:( ;D

Not so bad on the pass side but near impossible with the screenwash bottle in the way on the drivers'.

You can get them easily enough form Halfords, only a couple of quid for a pair.

Regards, Bruce.

Tiberius is right there. The Offside one is a pain. I actually think it is just as easy to take the headlight unit out, three bolts, ( One accessed from behind the indicator lens, Flip the lens out and then remove a phillips screw to allow the whole casing to come out and you can access the 3rd bolt easily.)THIS (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/images/handbook124.gif) will show you what I mean about obtaining access.

Hey, it's not THAT difficult (coming from me with huge hands  ;D)

The passenger side cover just unclips and pulls right out. no problems. Then pull the sidelight socket out and replace the bulb. Takes 1-2 minutes.

The driver side cover unclips and can be "led" down past the washer bottleneck.

The filler neck for the washer bottle is supposedly possible to push down and bend away, however I never got it to work on mine.

Thanks for the info on sidelight bulb change.  Mine was on the drivers' side; a bit of a fiddle but your help saved the day and it only cost 25P.  Keep on Scorpin'        Packard. :)
