Title: try this i have
Post by shaun on Dec 2nd, 2006, 8:45pm
unlock your digital reading on your dash,its fun,,ive got a mk4 est r reg ultma,so it works,, :o :o :o :o :o

Insert key in the ignition. Push the trip-reset button and hold it down. With the trip-reset held down turn your key to ignition on (all lights illuminated on clocks) and wait for the word TEST to come up on the LCD display. Now release the trip reset button.

By pressing the trip-reset button you can now scroll through the Ford diagnostics menu, which should allow you to display the following:

Number of presses
Digital Display Output

1
Gauge sweep
2
Fill in all LCD test

3
Bulb test

4
Instrument cluster Read Only Memory (ROM) test

5
Instrument cluster Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) test

6
Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Refer to list over page

7
Speed MPH

8
Speed KPH

9
Revs

10
Fuel volume

11
Coolant temperature

12
Battery voltage

13
ABS fail test

14
Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) failure test

15
Cluster and instrument panel illumination

16
Cluster and instrument panel crank sense

17 onwards
These outputs are of limited use unless you are a diagnostics guru!

Choosing one of the items will only stay on until you turn off the ignition. If you want to use this function again you will have to run through the process each time you restart your engine.

Simple, effective and fun!

Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)

9202 ..........B1202.......... Fuel pump module circuit open

9204 ..........B1204.......... Fuel pump module short to ground

9342 ..........B1342.......... Instrument Cluster ECU is defective

9318 ..........B1318.......... Battery voltage low (less than 10V)

9359 ..........B1359.......... Ignition Run/ACC circuit failure

A143 ..........B2143.......... NVM memory failure

A477 ..........B2477.......... Module configuration failure

Please note:

-          All information supplied is for personal use. If you have a problem with your vehicle I would recommend you take it to a qualified specialist for diagnosis and repair.

Always known this feature was there. There's details on the main website. But was never sure what all of the figures meant.

Hmm. Can't get it to work ??? All I get is the "regular" diagnostics menu which comes after holding the trip button for 5 secs or so. (So no difference if I hold the trip button when turning on ignition, or just push it afterwards.)

I've tried two facelifts including an April 98 build date with no success  :-/

How are you getting it to work Shaun?
Is the method you stated correct?

Mine is a very late one (May 1998) and it doesn't work on mine either. Just the regular diagnostics we all know about already!

So we have to start the engine? You didn't say that before....

Mind you, I (like others I assume) are not even getting as far as the 'TEST' bit. Just get a full screen of characters instead.

The characters are for the display we know about Paul, release the button and keep pressing it to cycle through the values.

I've just been out and tried again, starting the engine while holding it and every other combination of holding and waiting i can think of but just get the same thing as before.

Is there anything else you are doing different Shaun and do you have a picture of it working??

Yeah I know that. Already knew how to do the 'standard' method.
