Title: Have a guess!
Post by cossieguy on Dec 13th, 2006, 8:04pm
Well, taking my cossie into Clive Atthowes in Norwich for a run on his diagnostic equipment and rolling road. Will be interested to see what the BHP figure will be. It's a standard cosworth(1996 84,000 miles) apart from the Viper induction kit(Resonator and normal air box removed).
Place your guesses on the BHP figure now and the nearest can have a virtual pint on me.(will post result tomorrow).
My guess is 195 BHP.
Guy.

i'm going on these figures:204 bhp standard+6 for the induction=210 if engine wasn't 10 years old. Probably a good 15 down due to age etc.

There's a similar thread over on the Jag owners forum at the moment. Opinion over there seems to be that well cared for engines can develop more power as they age due to decreasing friction...

And then you get onto Nikasil cylinder coatings...no, don't go there :-/

I'm going with Scorpio man, mine's set at 175bhp @ the wheels ;)

Make mine a Guinness, nice and cold, not too much froth either :D

Regards, Bruce.

Decreasing friction? Up to a point i think... One of my old Ford instructors used to research all the cylinder honing diamond patterns for petrols and diesels and he said that as an engine wears the hone marks wear down and so there is greater contact between the piston ring and the cylinder liner, and due to there being less hone marks not as much oil is retained to lubricate the bore, hence why worn engines run slightly hotter due to increased internal friction.
