Title: uprated diff?
Post by toppin2 on Dec 16th, 2006, 1:24pm
hi all new member and proud owner of 1998 cozzy. was reading these pages recently and the idea of changing the rear diff on the cozzy for the 2ltr (4.27) diff. finding the diff was a start, but i remember reading something about also having to change the VSS to suit, is this correct and if so were is it located and what work is involed in chaning it? cheers

Hi, I did it on mine, the VSS is a straight swap, there are two different drive VSS pinion ratios for the 2.0 16v though depending on the model/tyres.

The diff is easy enough, you might need to change the back plate depending on what mounting type it is, early cars had a single mount, later ones had a double mounting but the plates are interchangable.

You'll need to remove the back plate anyway as the two drive flanges for the driveshafts on the 16v diff are smaller and wont fit the 24v driveshafts

Take the drive flanges from your 24v diff and put them in the 16v diff

Thats it, 20mpg max and plenty fun but watch it in the wet ;)
