Title: And More Headlights
Post by harry.m1byt on Dec 19th, 2006, 5:31pm
I just taken delivery of and installed the Osram Silverstar lamps. To avoid confusion I'll start at the beginning...

A few weeks ago a dipped lamp failed and the Lidle supermarket chain just happened to have some H1's on special offer £3.99 a pair (I think). The package mentioned +50%, but not xenon - I bought some and changed both dipped lamps, doing a comparison halfway - one old, one new lamp. There was a marked difference, but I put this improvement down to the old lamp filament being close to worn out. The old element looked really frazzled and pitted.

I didn't think they were xenon, so I kept my eyes open for xenon until the Osram lamps were mentioned and I have just taken delivery of a set of four of these, installed and done another comparison halway through the lamp swap.

The Osram lamps were (as near as I could tell by eye) of the same light output as the ones I got from Lidle, doing a dipped beam comparison after swapping just one side over.

I then swapped one 11 year old Ford original main beam lamp, for an Osram. The Osram was noticeably brighter than the remaining old main lamp.

Well worth the expense for the improved light output, if you still have the old Ford lamps installed, but the same could be had from Lidle much cheaper.

Mine should be here tomorrow :) someone on ebay is getting plenty custom from fordscorpio.co.uk :)

I stopped the other night after complaining about the lights once again and cleaned the lenses thoroughly and the windscreen inside and out and it made a big difference :)
