I've an Ultima 2.0 DOHC 16V which suffers from badly degraded wiring around the ignition coil packs, CPS and TPS (quite common so it seems).

Rather than invest in a new wiring loom which will no doubt be susceptible to the say problem, I know I can do a better job by using high temperature resistant cabling and sleeving but my question is ...

The push fit connectors that Ford use - are they of a particualr commercial type that I can buy onlone somewhere? Or are they only made and supplied by Ford? I've seen similar looking connectors (such as autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/product/680). Perhaps there is a name for the type of connector Ford uses?

Any help is much appreciated.

Fidget, As far as I am aware the answer is NO. I did a small amount of wiring repair and tried to obtain some connectors without success. I understand they are made for Ford and don't appear to be available as a part. I sent one off to a firm called Vehicle Wiring Products ( www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk ) but they rang to say that those shown in their catalogue,although apparently identical are NOT the same. The firm is a well known one with a very comprehensive catalogue and is used by members here. :)

Hi. Me and Simmo among others have talked about this in the past. In theory the later wiring shouldn't suffer from this problem, but I didn't want to take a chance so made my own from silicone wiring and heat resistant loom sleeving. We found that although the connectors do come apart, the heat from the engine normally makes them brittle and almost impossible to seperate without breaking. You have 2 choices; either cut the old wires near the plug, clean and solder the new ones on, or get new connectors. Simmo has tried sourcing some but has been unable.

Connectors on the Scorpio are the same as on the Mk1 Mondeo for certain and probably other Fords (Focus, Escort etc), also the same as the connectors on my Jag so it may be worth nosing around your local scrappie to see what you find. Try and source a loom away from the engine so the connectors aren't heat damaged.

I see the problem. I also found fciconnect.com but their online catalogue is so immense and slow I gave up the search, although some of their DCS-1 connectors look the part. On the other hand, if the same connectors are used across car manufacturers as you say, this indicates a common denominator so they must be available somewhere.

I agree, right now it would be better to source an old loom or at least one with the right connectors and rework it to suit, and source the connectors as a leisurely pursuit :-/
