Hello,

I hope someone might be able to help, we are trying to get the timing cover off a BOB 24v motor.......

Followed the tech manual from this very website, but it won't budge... >:(

Does anyone know of any 'tricks' or knacks? Does the timing cover drop down or pull forward to get it off the block?

it will have to drop down a bit as there are dowls in the top, make sure you have dropped the sump down, in fact its better to remove the sump as all the bits of gasket will end up blocking the oil strainer. have you removed the bolts from inside the cyl heads where the chains go down to the block

In short , the sump is off, the cam covers are off, since last night i have learned there might be a secret bolt holding the timing cover on from the back, nestling in the Vee...? >:(

Apart from that , what are the other traps for the unwary.....do you know?

yes there is one underneath the water housing in between the heads.

Got it, FMC 'hid' the bolt right in the Vee, and it isn't documented in all the Tech literature.... and there are two large long socket cap bolts right in the front of the heads, by the sprockets that need to come out........ then the cover just 'drops' away ...... ;)

yes the 2 long bolts are allen key
