Title: Aftermarket radio and speakers.
Post by Gasguzzla on Jan 15th, 2007, 8:30pm
I have made an extensive search of the site to find this out.

And here it is for the first time in plain English.

If you want to fit ISO connectors to the original Ford plugs....

On the 7 pin connector....

The thick orange and black one is for the memory (Yellow)

Either of the black ones can be the ground (Black)

The blue and black one is the ignition on/off (Red).

Helps if the fuse for the interior light isn't blown as well.

Can't be bothered typing in what the speaker wires are and I'm not sure I got the + and - right so I won't. It's all on here though if you care to decipher it.

Now, what size are the speakers???????????

Are they 4" front and 5/7" rear???????

Do non Ford speakers go straight in????????

If someone can give me an honest and simple answer I promise I will make a donation to this site!

'98 Turbo Diesel recently bought off ebay - teach me to bid on things I don't really want!!! (Kind of like it though.)

4" and 5x7" is correct.

Check out my post here (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=OT;action=display;num=1154633972;start=30#33) for ideas for the front speakers. I still plan on doing the rears, but haven't got around to do it yet  ::)

i've got some 6x9's waiting to go in the rear; the problem here is the depth of just about any aftermarket speakers, some metal under the parcel shelf needs to be cut. the original speakers are shallow with tiny magnets.....

Thanks for the replies Guys.

Read through Kjetil S 's thread and all I can say is........ :o
You should paint your car white and write N A S A down the side!!!

May have a go at the fronts this weekend but with slightly cheaper speakers. I'll let either of you two do the rears before I go cutting any metal.....

Anyway... a donation of £0.50 is ready and waiting... just as soon as I figure out how to do it. 8)

One found the folling links extremely helpful:

I got a set of Vibe Slick 50 5.25" speakers in the front doors. They almost slotted straight in the original holes (5 mins with a file).
6 by 9's will be going in the parcel shelf very soon. The metal underneath the shelf will have to be cut - I don't really want to but....

Anyone ever done the valve clearances on the diesel ??????

Here how my 6x9's turned out it is plenty of work but well worth doing.

I am starting to gather parts for a front door build, been wanting to do it for ages.
I will take pics along the way to show you.
I do know that richard did a very tidy door build with 6x9's no doubt he will have something to say before long ;)

gas, last week i changed the injectors in my diesel which was simple but involved removing the valve cover, i wondered about the valves but didnt have time to hunt through the site for clearances etc.....

6 by 9's proving to be an absolute nightmare!
If you move them further back the window is in the way. And further forward there's like box section metal to interfere with the magnet. I'm not cutting that!!

Will try next using MDF spacers - in the shape of the original speaker casings - and leaving the grills off......

Apparenly, even though the diesel is pushrod, it has little tiny shims in the rockers - how annoying is that!!!

Signed:
Gas to tight to buy decent 5 by 7's or go to a garage guzzla.

The VM 2.5 diesel engine has hydraulic tappets so there's no clearances, etc. to adjust - just make sure you're using the correct grade oil.  And yes, they do sound bloody awful...  ::)

They are hydraulic...al !!! Fantastic news...... :)

Maybe get a set of new pushrods some time in the distant future...

Mr Taliban, if you see this, where did you get your injectors??? I've seen recond ones on ebay for £25 each exchange....!

Nothing new with the speakers yet.  :-/

(I've got a Rizzla cup with GUZZLA+ written on it) :-[

Gas, decent second hand injectors are very hard to come by, i was really lucky. i got mine from steve savill who assured me they'd only done 500-1000 miles as he knew the bloke who's engine they'd come from, so i took a gamble, luckily he was correct. im not sure how much they were as i bought them with a remote, boot lid, and i think mudflaps as a bundle for 200 quid. the difference they have made is amazing, the engine is so much quieter and smoother. i too looked at ebay, but you can never be sure, its probably better to go to an injector specialist where you can do an exchange etc. if you buy new, i think they're about 70 each plus vat, not cheap. you can try cleaning them with an ultrasonic cleaner, i've got one which is mainly for jewellery, but cleans up small engine parts superbly.
give me a shout when you do it, i've got the 28mm window socket thats needed for the job.

(i've got a rizla suzuki cap with john reynolds autograph on it)

HI FELLA, THIS MAY BE OF USE BUT IF YOU GO TO HALFORDS OR ANY DECENT CAR STEREO SHOP AND SHOW THEM THE STEREO YOU WANT TO PUT IN THEY CAN SUPPLY YOU WITH A WIRING LOOMTHAT SHOULD CONNECT TO YOUR STEREO AND DIRECTLY TO THE CARS ORRIGINAL WIRING, THIS WAY IT SAVES YOU HAVING TO CUT WIRES ETC, MEASURE THE SPEAKERS RITE ACCROSS THE MIDDLE AND ALSO TELL THEM THE MEASUREMENTS AND THEY SHOULD HAVE SPEAKERS THAT WILL FIT TOO, HOPE THIS HELPS. :D

Unfortunately I like to do things the hard way.....

But finally they are IN!!!!

Incredible sound and bass for £21.24 + 6.99 postage;
kenwood 300w 6 by 9's

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AVRI&viewitem=&item=120087042985&rd=1&rd=1

Made mdf spacers in the shape of the original speaker housings, 1cm longer and 1cm thicker, carefully positioned the 6 by 9 hole and covered them in the sleeves of an old fleece!

Absolute nightmare of a job getting them in but now the whole car vibrates.......

Why would anybody bother with a sub... or an amp ???

If there's any way of uploading pictures to this site I'll do that........?

(Might be good for a laugh!)
