Title: antidazzle interior mirror
Post by macturbo on Jan 15th, 2007, 9:33pm
Can anyone please tell me what wires go where on this mirror,
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d43/thegeordieboy/autoglaremirror.jpg
the colours of the wires on the mirror before the mutliplug is, 1 is black, 1 is grey, 1 is white. They change colour after the multiplug for some reason. I bought this mirror from a local scrap yard on saturday for £2 and thought it would look better in my escort RS turbo.  Thanks in advance for any help  ;D

THIS (http://www.carsoft.ru/avtorepair/sierra/mirror.pdf) is the wiring diagram for the mirror. Scroll to the bottom of the page. Perhaps it will help you.

Grey = Pin 1 = Not Needed

White = Pin 3 = 12v Switched Live (in the Scorpio this runs through  Fuse 16 which is rated at 7.5A)

Black = Pin 4 = Ground

The mirror should work with just the +ve & -ve connected. the grey wire to pin 1 is the changed to a purple wire which runs off into the clever circuitry of the Scorpio multiplex system!

I have just been out and checked with a multimeter so it should be right. You need to make sure that the mirror itself is OK and that it isn't about to leak all over the interior of the car. These mirrors are prone to leakage and failure and the substance that comes out will damage plastic. If the mirror has any kind of liquid visible in the glass or if it is a greeny/orangy/browny colour, chances are it is either bust or on its way out.

Hope this helps; now get rid of that Escort and get a proper car!!

Welcome to the site as well!

Baz

As Baz suggested, but I will add....

To test it....

Connect + and - and in full daylight and with the green LED glowing (maybe push the button to get it on) cover the small hole facing forward with you finger tip. That should cause it darken slightly. You need to watch carefully, it is not instant.

There is a second hole facing you, both are light sensors. Logic is with light on the face, but none on the rear, it must be dazzling so darken.

Thanks very much for the info lads. Im a bit put off now as I can see some liquid in the top right corner and if I turn the mirror upside down the liquid slowly goes the other way. Also it seems to have a slight green tinge to it.  :-[

Dont use it if you can see the liquid!
If the liquid leaks it will melt whatever it lands on.
You can remove the liquid and use it as a normal mirror though by carefully prising it apart
