Title: Jump Start Gizmo Post by mr._floppy on Jan 21st, 2007, 12:39pm Anyone tried one of them jump start machines that work via the fag lighter and do away with the need for bulky cables. Seen them in The Factory Shop ( a superior outlet for the discerning budget buyer }{ ) . Would they work with the notoriously curmudgeonly Scorpio starting circuit ? |

Title: Re: Jump Start Gizmo Post by Kjetil S on Jan 21st, 2007, 1:35pm I don't have any experience, but I would be worried that the system would fry the cables between the battery and lighter and short circuit something. :-/ |

Title: Re: Jump Start Gizmo Post by Highlander on Jan 21st, 2007, 2:40pm are they desingned to jumpstart the car through the socket or just charge the battery? I would think the same as Kjetil, the current draw required to jump start a car is surely too much for the socket wiring? |

Title: Re: Jump Start Gizmo Post by monghad on Jan 21st, 2007, 3:44pm Used it on a couple of occasions, once to help a colleague and the other time to boost a dead battery, seems to work fine, no electrical drama at all, hope this helps. Chris :) |

Title: Re: Jump Start Gizmo Post by jonnycab on Jan 21st, 2007, 8:10pm If these things say that they jump start the car via the fag lighter, then they must work....otherwise the companies that make them would be paying out fortunes to people with melted looms. Just out of interest Stuart....how much is it ? Been thinking of getting one myself, for a while now, but they always seemed a bit pricey out of Halfords or Argos. :) |

Title: Re: Jump Start Gizmo Post by mr._floppy on Jan 21st, 2007, 8:55pm Actually, looking at it more closely it's more like a trickle charge from the good battery to the dud battery which explains the thinness of the wires. I don't think it will replace the hefty high amperage cables needed for instant jump starting. :-/ |

Title: Re: Jump Start Gizmo Post by Highlander on Jan 21st, 2007, 9:42pm Thats what i thought they were, a trickle charger for a few hours to boost the batery |
